Just wondering this because at EOT my Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate has dropped to 71.

On 18 March the day before starting Tx, it was 87 which is just below normal range.

At week 4 it was >90

Should I be worried?

Because the calculation works best for estimating reduced kidney function, the National Kidney Foundation suggests only reporting actual results once values are < 60 mL/min (they state normal values as 90-120 mL/min). An eGFR below 60 mL/min suggests that some kidney damage has occurred.

So 60 is the number to watch for.

We had someone in our group end up on dialysis after Harvoni BUT he started with a GFR below 60. He probably would have ended on dialysis anyway.

Thanks Price. I guess I'll have a look at the reading in 3 months when I get tested for SVR12.

Hi Beaches,

This is something to watch rather than panic about. Creatinine is an indirect measure of kidney function and eGFR is calculated using a formula from this.

A good first step would be the have a urine dipstick - you should have not protein or red cells in this - if you do that needs looking into further.
YMMV

Hope you are not calling me a dipstick, Doc :silly:
Thanks for the advice. My creatinine level was 78 which is in he normal range (I believe - well Dr Google tells me so).
I'll follow up the urine dipstick suggestion, thanks very much for your advice.

My chemistry is a little rusty but I suspect you will end up with gas, water and salt in your stomach. ;)

I'll leave it to the medical types to comment on any benefits to the kidneys.
