39 years I've had this bug - I'm certainly ready to be rid of it!

Took my first Sof/Dac pills last night. Had some insomnia - woke up at around 3.30am and couldn't get back to sleep - could be emotional, I'm not sure. Sleepy tired today, could just be the lack of sleep.

Took the pills at 9pm. Planning to hit the bug just that little bit harder at first by taking each dose an hour or two earlier each day till I get to early morning. Tonight - 7-8pm. Has anyone else done this?

Being very careful with Dac interactions. Avoiding all vitamins, herbs, citrus fruits.

Luckily for me I'm not working for the next few months, so I can take it easy.

Here we go - Phoenix is rising from the ashes! :cheer:

Rise Phoenix! Brush off those ashes and burn away those little buggers!!

Backing up the dose a bit each day is the way to go. I am on sof & led, but sleep makes all the difference in the world for me, so I have always taken it first thing in the morning. A dull headache the first three days. That was it...

Good Luck!
Mike

You may be being overly cautious here. Most vitamins and herbs can be helpful and I'm certainly not stopping my daily ones. I just checked the drug interactions site and the only one contraindicated (of the ones I checked) is St John's Wort, with antacids and grapefruit as "potential". Even cannabis is not contraindicated and I can vouch it helps with the common sleep deprivation many people here have reported, although I wouldn't do it every day. ;)
There is also a thread on this forum about B12 and it's probability to increase the efficacy of DAAs.
Check here - www.hep-druginteractions.org/checker

Lotsa luck with your Tx!

Thanks for the thoughts, Sonix. For me though your post is an example of not being cautious enough. The Wikipedia page on CYP3A4 lists Valerian, Gingko Biloba, Milk Thistle (how many of us take that!) and Piperine (= black pepper) as "inhibitors" of CYP3A4. I'm sure these lists are not exhaustive either. Have a look at this site, for example:

www.ganfyd.org/index.php?title=Inhibitors_of_CYP3A4

I think I'll cut and paste this into the other thread I've started on Dac interactions.

Food for thought?

Food for thought indeed. I love pawpaws and it's a good season for them now, but they are mentioned on that page you linked.
I'd like to hear Dr James comment on this.

Definitely something to consider...would it be better to be overly cautious? Hmmm I did eat a whole lot of tropical fruit last night *ahem*

Great to hear you've started treatment Phoenix! I'm only just in front of you by one day. Interesting idea about staggering doses back - I started at 6am so is a bit more awkward to give that a go...finish up with an afternoon dosage cycle?

Hi Sonix,

SSshhh! You'll get some of the others grumpy with me for recommending against it in another post somewhere around here. ;)

Actually my reasoning for doing so is that it is an inhibitor although relatively mild. The problems are that you never know what the size of your dose will be (not just talking stoned vs wiped but also the various levels of different forms of cannabinoids in each dose) and also being absorbed by fats it hangs around in your body for several days to weeks afterwards. Plus the other chemicals from smoking it that your liver must process. So I figure that for 6 months I can add that to things like alchohol that my body will survive without. And probably thank me for not adding to its workload while healing my liver. And you specialist/GP can prescribe what are probably more benign sleeping aids if necessary. Of course YMMV.

@GAJ Yeah I would definitely not recommend regular use. My experience is a couple of puffs at a mate's place and having a good night's sleep for a change.

Sorry if we're hijacking your thread, Phoenix, but need to make it clear.

Thanks LondonGirl! Day 2's dose is an hour away - feel like I'm in the swing of it now. I've had a real sloth cave of a day. I think it's an emotional hump - memories of interferon horror. This is going to be different! :)
