| I bought a Volcano vaporizer about 5 years ago. I feel that vaping reduces the tar intake, but does nothing in terms of gum tissue. Even edibles don't help. It's an off topic but THC suppresses saliva production, which causes gum damage. Even people prescribed Marinol have this problem. It's not smoking that ruins yours gums, or the heat, it's the THC. This is a big problem that gets no press. Lose your teeth, and you can get all kinds of heart problems and infections. It's the dirty secret of pot. | Wow! Thats very interesting! Gum problems is me, thats for sure. I'd appreciate any links you might have to this issue. It certainly is a big downside edit : Actually never mind about the links, the internet is full of info on this. Thanks again though, for the heads up. | Well here is one I just found on Google sensiseeds.com/en/blog/cannabis-give-cotton-mouth/ There are more. But just to reiterate, I had the same dry mouth problems from ingesting cannabis without smoking. It's caused by the THC. Believe me, I love THC Gt 1a, F0, VL 6.5 million, AST 59, ALT 62 Started Twinvir 1/15/16 6 wk. labs VL UND, AST 27, ALT 20 EOT labs VL UND, AST 23, ALT 19 SVR 16, VL UND, AST 28, ALT 17 SVR 24 , VL UND, 10/8/16 SVR 125, VL UND, 9/22/18 SVR 230, VL UND, 10/3/20 The following user(s) said Thank You: flyingfox66 |

I wore it out in my younger days. But those days are long gone. I had no clue about gum damage due to pot. I feel for you and the others who are suffering. Anything that messes with eating is horrible. That I know first hand. When the reflux hits, I am wasted for two days. Think cookies or brownies would be OK or is it the chemicals in the blood? Nowadays it's every couple of years or so. I have noticed that I've become VERY sensitive to it. Is it because my liver has (had?) more cannabinoid receptors? I hear it's got much stronger these days. Because of hydroponics? Maybe that's why? x J the young dragon slayer is: HepC 1a since birth Male aged 15 VL 2000000 Started Twinvir/ 10-11-15-then Sof/led. | It's actually just the THC itself that is the big problem. People eating brownies. etc. will have the same problems. Fortunately, even though my gums have been damaged, I stopped in time to avoid any long term pain or infection problems. I just have a lot of gum recession. But not a health problem since I stopped in time. Yes, it is definitely much stronger mostly due to selective breeding of the best strains, hydroponics just makes that easier to do but even with 'homegrown' people tend to use the seeds from the best quality they or their friends have smoked lately. So we are continually selecting for more potent strains. | No problem. If I had not smoked, I would have drank a lot more and probably had cirrhosis by now. So better to have some gum recession than serious health problems. I feel blessed at this point in time, I really do. I have no regrets. I'm lucky, all things considered. It's not about the receptors but the signaling (or lack of) from the receptors. Receptor expression is usually dynamic - chronic stimulation of receptors often results in decreased numbers of receptors, while under- stimulation causes an increase in the number of receptors. Activation of receptors may also cause modification of receptors to a point where even mild stimuli cause substantial responses. Such changes are not necessarily just alterations in numbers of receptors - types and activities of receptors may also change. Over- or under-stimulation of one receptor can also have profound effects on other receptors. Things that activate CB1 receptors: 1. Endocannabinoids produced by your own body. 2. Synthetic man-made cannabinoids (like some meds) 3. Plant cannabinoids like marijuana. "up regulation of CB1 is mediated by increased interferon (IFN) signalling in HCV-infected cells." sydney.edu.au/mbi/PDFs/Shahidi_SEIB%202011.pdf Endocannabinoid system activation contributes to glucose metabolism disorders of hepatocytes and promotes hepatitis C virus replication. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=Endoca...+C+virus+replication. Elevated Levels of Endocannabinoids in Chronic Hepatitis C May Modulate Cellular Immune Response and Hepatic Stellate Cell Activation www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4425004/ Recent studies have confirmed the links between the downgrading of cannabinoid receptors in the brain and regular cannabis use. In short, introducing external THC creates changes in the brain. As the body loses CB1 receptors, more THC is needed to create the desired effect. Cannabis harms the brain.
