Australian Story - Luke Davies 6 years 11 months ago #24527
Some of you might have seen Australian Story on the ABC this past two weeks. It featured the Australian poet and novelist Luke Davies who was nominated for an Oscar for his script for the movie Lion. Part 1 covered his troubled past. In Part 2 this week Luke spoke about having Hepatitis C and the impact that it had on his personal and professional life. He was treated with the hell that was interferon which failed like it did for so many others. Like many of us before treatment he was heading toward a pretty bleak place but he spoke about getting rid of virus and getting his life back through the new medications. We all have our own story about Hep C but there are benefits in higher profile people coming out and talking about their experiences as one small step towards normalising this virus. Given the lack of media by the Australian Government in relation to the new treatments the importance of people hearing about successful treatments through other forms of media can't be underestimated.
