Sof plus Dac or Sof plus Led? 8 years 6 months ago #500

Well I went to see my GP, a new Irish doctor only in Oz for 6 months who is not very familiar with HCV and it's management. My regular GP has retired. She was not willing to prescribe for me. She wants to get advice from my Virologist in Sydney who had already written to my GP stating that I am well educated on available and new treatments in the pipeline, that he did not need to see me again and that I could access treatment through my GP when they became available thru the PBS. So, once again it's back on the treadmill. My GP did not want to write the prescription because she thought she would be liable if I used the script to procure 'unsafe' drugs from overseas. She will await advice from my virologist which could take a month and even then it is possible he is unaware that there is a safe and effective way of accessing these meds through the buyers group.

Greyhound, you're in Australia.

You can skip seeing your GP and use GP2U and buy direct from The Buyers Club.

Go back to the liver clinic and ask for a Fiber scan and some blood work once you obtain the results you can send
them direct to Dr Freeman.

In other words you don't need a prescription from your GP once you have your Hep C information Dr Freeman
can write your script.

Yes, that is exactly what I intend to do. I have already had a Fibroscan done earlier this year through my virologist in Sydney. I'm having updated LFT's done tomorrow am. I'll get the results first then make an appointment online with GP2U.

Hi I am a 3a non responder with stage 4 -fibro 23. I got the virus in the 70's. Also I got the ribavirin with the Indian generics. I am the thinking the riba doesn't go well with interferon. Try it, the worst thing that can happen is that you stop it. kindly

Hi Berinice

I personally didn't mind the ribavirin and my RBC and Haemo didn't tank even when overdosing to 1400mg daily. Em

I am a bit dubious about this Indian Ribavirin. I am going to write to the manufacturer to get assurance that its 100%. I have taken ribavirin before and accidently took 1 tablet too much -1200mg in total and I was violently sick for 10 hours. I am taking 1200mg and no effect.
I am under 75 kilos so 1000mg should be enough for me. So I am suspicious. kindly

This is exactly what the hep c nurse at Royal Hobart said to me about 2 weeks ago was also their thinking. They actually think the people who are experiencing sides might be getting them mostly from the Sof. I think they're monitoring a fair few people who have gone through Greg now. I'm going to drill her for as much info as I can when I see her on Monday. Might get to see the specialist too if I'm lucky. Think he works Monday's.

Also they did an FBC on me again with my VL so will be able to tell you if there's any side of anemia yet.

Did you get my email? I think Greg has good reason to be confident of his sources. I'm not worried about it. I just figure every day without side effects is one less day I'll have to put up with them if they do suddenly kick in.
