Hi girls hi Tina
I haven't had a cycle since the first peg/inf they just disappeared and never came back
I don't know if I had menopause because I was too sick from that tx to really tell.
Before peg/inf I was okay but I suspect peri-menopausal
I have two adult children I wonder if hepC brings on early change of life because my friends were not having their cycle all over the place like mine was for a few years before I was diagnosed then the peg/inf/riba just nuked whatever was left anyway
I'm never going to do any hormone replacement either it's way too dangerous I think because of my family history of BC
Did anyone else find that peg/inf nuked whatever youthjuice they had too?
Good topic

Hi Coral I lost 2/3 of my hair on peg/inf so I might be able to help
I'm using macadamia oil massage on my scalp to enrich the quality of my skin up there and stimulate the follicles
My hair has grown back beautifully since peg/inf but I am aware that dryness is a possible sx of these new tx
I'm obsessed with maintaining my mane since last disaster I had to buy a full set of super expensive clip in hair to be able to perform (musician) the hair is now in my drawer hahahaaa. Because I am now paranoid I am already massaging macadamia oil into my scalp and ends just in case!
I hear apricot kernel oil is awesome too
If desperate and you start thinning use a very expensive but worth it range of shampoo and conditioner called Nioxin xxxx
I hope your hair stays as best as possible
Love from Ariel xx

Hi Ariel thanks for your input :)
I am fortunate in that I have not had any previous treatment with Peg/int & riba, you make a very valid point that you suspect they - and I quote "nuked you" LOL!! you crack me up :cheer:

On a slightly more serious note though it all the more reason DAA's should be the mainstay treatment for HCV and not Riba & peg/int.

Hear hear Tina
I reckon I was aged around 85 while on that poison x
Yup disgusting stuff so glad I have been able to rebuild a lot of the damage it was hard work to recover as best I could I lost my career to that stuff but I see that as an opportunity to reinvent myself :) in a better way too :+1:
I wonder how people cope even on riba with the new DAAs it gave me a hideous rash of sores all over my upper body soooo gross!
Anyway I don't want to frighten anyone
Sorry if that was too much info

Don't be sorry at all
This is the information that people need to know what the reality is about Peg/Inte & riba.

When I was diagnosed (2012) I ran out of my GP's room in tears, following this I went home and looked into treatment options which in New Zealand is Peg/int & Riba and for me being GT1a a 48week ride. After researching these two drugs to say I was terrified is an understatement, for a while there I had thoughts of suicide......

Lucky for me I gave myself a kick up the ass and got on with things xx

Thankyou for starting this fascinating discussion Tina, and #love and so sorry for the experiences of some of us who have had miscarriages etc. It's made me quite emotional reading it. The untold story of this virus?
Just for the record I only had one baby, overdue and an adult now. My menopause seemed to be the normal time around age 52/ 53.
About the dry hair thing, thanks Ariel for the recommendation of Nioxin, I have heard of it, not tried it yet.

I have often thought that research should be collated re Womens Hormonal health and the virus. Well this is the starting place isn't it.
So far just in our small collective we report miscarriage (very traumatic and significant) early births, hair issues, sudden menopause, early menopause and we haven't started on the effects of the virus on our complexion and body skin.

Some people are still taking riba with the new DAAs and those of us who have done Riba may have tips for coping with the rash if anyone out there is toughing out riba rash some of us could share just ask #love

Yes ladies a valid blog very interesting
I'm now also completely paranoid of manicure and pedicure spa shops which we all know are everywhere these days.
I mean what regulations are there on sterilisation?
I have popped this blog into my favourites ty xxxx

Thanks Tina, Ariel et al for the discussion and hints for dry hair which I will try. This frigging virus tried to sabotage my career, relationships and glass half full approach to life and now it wants my hair as well?? Lol. :cheer:

I think it's the treatment to be Hep C free that's affecting my hair so I'll forgive it this one last thing. ;) I'll embrace my return to a bob/blob that I'd been trying to grow out.

You are great gals :cheer:

I found on the Peg/riba tx the riba sides were worse than my last tx which was with some orals +riba ( Ifn added later though unfortunately)
So what I mean is, I found without Peg Ifn, the Ribas aren't as bad.

With the dry skin & hair I found coconut oil worked well & also washing & moisturising with Aveeno, found in supermarkets & chemists.
Really good stuff.

Unfortunately I also lost heaps of hair though.

to stop, or help stop the riba rash, you need to keep moisturised & keep well hydrated.

My tx's paid havoc on my hormones, I'm more & more sure that they caused the miscarriages .

Also in the third trimester of my pregnancy which gave me my J, I had cholestasis of pregnancy which was caused by the hep as well,
I nearly lost him from that & the torture from the never ending itch & rash from the disease was almost unbearable.

....all worth it in the end though :cheer: #love

I have emailed my specialist asking their advise on the dry skin and hair loss issues and whether there are products out there recommended to use.

Unfortunately for me coconut oil doesn't work, in fact I get small histamine rashes after using it - I do like the look of the apricot kernel oil - might have to give that a whirl. I haven't had any hair loss however my hair is VERY dry and brittle atm.

Another member on this thread had sent me a pm.... can you do it again? I tried to respond and when I did my reply seemed to disappear (I did see in the public chat that this happened to others as well) #flower :+1:

That Aveeno body moisturiser I mentioned is good, I get rashes to things easily too but never got a reaction from it.
Also there's a Aveeno body wash as well.

I've also heard that the apricot kernel is good

I used to get terrible psoriasis just under the liver area (strangely)...the only thing that got rid of it was skin brushing (slightly wet). It does much more for my general skin quality that any external cream ever did. I think it helps your skin to excrete the toxins your liver can't manage. Skin is your third kidney after all.
Periods have been occasional and scant for years, slowly petering out.
Last ultrasound said bleeding ovarian cysts but those apparently are nothing serious.
Still not in treatment. Looking forward hopefully to the PBS listing, but terrified of being warehoused.
Maybe I'll still end up on generics.

Hi FF #flower

Nice to have you in this thread you are absolutely correct about the skin and kidney relationship (good advise about the brushing too).

I cant believe that your bleeding wasn't taken seriously pfft......

I'm looking forward to when you start treatment, I sincerely hope you kick off in March with the PBS - if I remember correctly from your previous posts that you have been quite unwell thanks to this cockroach of a virus. If you are not treated straightaway then having the access to generics is a godsend.

Thanks Tina :)
It sure is a relief to know that I have options!
I'm sure the virus has messed with my health in many ways, for years now, even though I've managed it with herbs. After almost thirty years I have absolutely reached my limit of coping with it.
Medical professionals just look at the numbers though, and tell me there's nothing wrong. And ignore all the symptoms I've been reporting for years and years.
I guess we all know that feeling!
