Ok, some of you may recall that Ive mentioned a forum in the US run by a moderator who screams “CHINESE POISON DOG FOOD” at the mention of generics, and in fact she banned me because I mentioned it, and she usually quickly wipes off any mention. Well some person has managed to get a post on there that has lasted 2 days so far, but a series of replies following it is all misinformation, with other posters saying, well no one in the US has used generics, we can’t get generics in the US, and the medicine you are taking must be one of those Gilead licensed generics from India. I tried to correct the misinformation, but am still banned. Any of you who might want to have a go at it could try, the post is titled “API Generics”. “It’s been a while since I last visited this site. I had given up all hope of a cure after having failed peg/ Ribavarin treatment. Living and working in the UAE I am unable to get insurance to foot the bill for Harvoni so have opted for Chinese generics of sufosbuvir and ledipsavir through FixhepC in Australia. Have been taking the meds for 4 weeks now and had my first blood test two days ago. As I wait for results I cannot help but think should I also be taking riba? Should I be on 24 weeks treatment? I cannot rely on the advice of the docs here as I seem to know more about the medication and the options available than every Hematologist or Gastroenterologists I have visited here. Not being arrogant, it’s just they don’t seem to know. It’s astounding really. I am gen type 1a with 14,000 000 viral load. I wait for results anxiously. I already had the opportunity to call someone a “Ratbag” today…they just had no idea what I was talking about, but they knew on some level it wasn’t good, have told a few others here about it, and they love the term…it may spread around this locality.

Hi Irma, well I guess there really aren’t that many of us “2B”s around, not sure how many others there are on the board that are 2b, you’re the first I recall.
At least you live in a nice place, I thought Sydney and the rest of Australia that I saw was all pretty damn nice. Someday I’d like to see Tasmania!
Let’s hope the 2bs are as lucky as some of these other genotypes we see. In this country, our FDA won’t even approve daclatasvir and sofosbuvir for GT2. the most they will appove is sovaldi and ribavirin….but even that’s a ruse cause Insurance co.s most of time turn you down for the sovaldi anyway.

In the hills of Appalachia here, you do actually here the phrase, “Crazy as a shithouse rat”. Widespread use of outhouses must have given them the opportunity to make those observations of that sub-group of rodents I guess.

I’ve been 2B since 80’s too, before that i was non-a, non-b….soon I hope to be just undetected.same as you taking daclatasvir and sofosbuvir I picked up in Sydney, when I told the pharmacy I was coming he said when can you be here? and I said, well, its gonna take a little while, “I’m coming from out of town”.

well maybe the previous way that was always discussed, get all your prescriptions and documents in order, go thru Dr. Freeman or Greg who can still order drugs I believe, and see if they can then courier it through DHL to the US with all the documentation shipped with the product. Will take longer but I think its an alternative thats still available?

This is good news and certainly needed, but really…18 months to confirm what everybody already knew and what was as completely obvious as anything could be? Gilead never provided any viable or beievable rationale for those prices.
Now the good senators should calculate how many people died as a result of not getting access due to those high prices and Order reparations to the families of Gileads’ victims, but I would not bet on that ever happening. Perhaps a class action lawsuit might work, but that will bring no real comfort to those who have lost loved ones that could have been saved–at best maybe will send a message to any other unscrupulous profiteers.

Guess I just had to get that rant out! I do get riled up at the “schlubs” screwing with people’s lives, I decided to look up that word and found this, look at the next to last line, it seems I could have used an even better synonym for schlub that it says the Australians use: “RATBAG??” wow, I like that one better, “don’t wait for some RATBAG to determine your fate”.
Do you Aussie mates really use that term? I’m going to start using it in the US with reference to some of these “chowderheads, dorks, chuckleheads, meatheads, sapheads, clodpolls” and the rest of the RATBAGS!

your article’s cited make it clear, should have read that first, as you guys noted, its just another gilead price scheme to keep control and keep prices obscenely high for the most part. Thankfully we have the access from China and India now or we’d still be begging for medicine.

would have made for more clarity for me to have posted what I was referencing (doh), this is the thing I saw, reading it more closely it looks like its referencing their licensing agreements to the Indian companies to manufacture, and then the big list of developing countries is where the Indian manufactured drugs are permitted to be sold? here’s the thing I read:

Awwwww, I LIKED the Ant and Grasshopper thing. I’m telling you it helped motivate me get off my ass and buy a plane ticket to Australia, different things work for different people, but if it motivated me to get moving then maybe it can motivate others. You sometimes need to boot people up into taking control of their own lives in a situation like this, where a lot of us have been indoctrinated to do as whatever some doctor or insurnace company says to do, such as, “oh just wait a little bit longer, come back next year and we’ll have another look then”.
I like it, its a motivator, people can get plenty of warm and fuzzy positivity and encouragement within the forum once they get going, but first we’ve got to them up off the couch and either on the plane or on the phone to Mesochem or something.

Some kind of totally separate charitable organization, legalized under Australian, or US or whatever country’s laws, that simply maintained and dispersed the funds. People who found their way to fixhepc who didn’t have money could be directed to apply to the hepcure charity fund. Whoever would be overseeing that charity would have to screen the applicants for eligibility and whatever criteria was decided to be used. Then if approved the Hepcure charity fund could send a voucher, or payment to Dr. Freeman or one of the compounding pharmacies in the name of the approved applicant to have their meds delivered to the approved applicant. I think that way it could never be argued that the two entities were comingled. Maybe even more so if the “fund” were set up in a country other than Australia, but maybe that’s overkill, maybe the US would actually be a bad place for it, things aren’t exactly not scrutinized around here these days as Mr. Snowden showed us….just my random idea, for the discussion.
