Have been back in the US / Boston for 6 days now and adjusting to 11 hour time zone change and all that. I have a 24 hour alarm set as my meds are now in the evening instead of the morning. Gotta love coffee, it lights my fire in the morning, and yes I saw The Doors / Jim Morrison live in the old Boston Garden way way back in the day.
Anyway sent my first feeler to a progressive health columnist that writes for the Boston Globe offering to bare my soul, medical records, and share my story of hep c and generic meds. Not sure what I am getting into if anything but have made the first leap and hope the chute opens.

There is a little saying that goes something like if you lived in my shoes.
I see my lovely daughter working 80-90 hours a week in the hospital doing her internship. I know her goal is not to become a smug know it all a-hole.
Let’s not throw the whole lot to the wolves. JMUO

Sorry to hear this. You have the right attitude and will prevail I am sure.

You my friend are one of those rare birds.
I thank you for being the voice of calm and reason in many a thread on this site.

Start June 7, 2016Guys/gals I have yet to have an appointment with a doctor about VL tests and all. One of the good things about living in TH Was that I could walk into a lab and order tests, they then send results to my email and it’s then on to Dr. Google and of course this site to try and figure it out. No idea what they do in the US yet but here is a snippet from pre meds and four week post mess VL tests in Thailand. I understand that 147 is a lot less than 4.48 million, log equivalent I really do not understand. At some point I hope to see a doc here but it is all out of pocket so am trying to go as far as I can on my own knowledge and with help from here.
Baseline VL before tx > HCV RNA (quantitative) 4480000 IU/mL
Log Equivalent 6.65VL now > HCV RNA (quantitative) 147 IU/mL

Start June 7, 2016Thanks Fitz, I still don’t quite understand the terminology quantitative, qualitative, Math was and is not my strong suit, but you are right 4.9 Million to 147 is a good sign. Take care my friend.

Congrats on the UND
Being new on the forum I quickly saw you are a little Dynamo.
They say that what does not kill you will make you stronger.
So you may want to think about a new moniker name. May I suggest SG (Super Girl)
Thanks for your boundless energy and inspiration.

Start June 7, 20169 July 2016 at 5:03 pm in reply to: Article – Do doctors understand what helps HCV patients…. #20748i guess it’s easy sometimes to blame the doctors when we as patients seem to know more than them about our illness and treatment. I felt the same as I was encountering doctors in Thailand that did not have a clue about the new DAA’s. Now in the US and conversing with my daughter who is doing her internship. She was grateful for all the info I had given her about the generics and Doc Freeman’s work. In turn she said she has passed that info to some of her attending docs that she works under. At present she is working 80-90 hours a week so I do have some compassion if they do not have all the answers. It’s WIP as the word spreads. Just my totally unbiased thoughts. ops:

Start June 7, 2016Great news diplomat. Congratulations on reaching SVR.
You have been given a gift. Pass the word on to others that there are alternatives to the outrageously priced branded meds.
All the best to you.

Start June 7, 2016HI Semisweet from a fellow American just back to Boston 24 hours ago from long residence in Asia. Also non insured and never thought I would have a chance to get tx in the US so am on generics 4 weeks now with liver tests back to normal and big viral load decrease.
Very happy you got your Meds
There is a saying in India, that every grain of rice has someone’s name on it and I guess those precious Meds had semisweet on them. All the best to you on your journey to SVR.

Start June 7, 2016Awesome news Fitz
We started our tx one day apart and my 4 week blood draw showed all LFT’s returned to normal range. I had the viral load from the Thai lab and I just got it back. This one is difficult for me to fully understand. I was hoping for UND but I assume I’m going in the right direction. BTW went through customs in Boston Wednesday night like hot knife through cheese, no problems. Take care my friend and enjoy the good news.

First off I love the username you chose. Very appropriate. Speaking for myself the side affects have not been that bad, fatigue and headaches have been the worst of it. I am quite isolated in location and always feel better when in the company of friends, that is probably a given when ill but I never realized how important it was until now. Sharing your good and bad times here is a good start. Wish you all the best with your tx, cheers cheese
