RadioNZ are running the story at 0900 local on Monday.
I’ll be having a chat and then Prof Ed Gane will be on.
I’ve had constructive conversations with both the Hepatitis Foundation and Prof Gane this week which, along with the evidence provided by this forum and the brave patients that have spoken out, have helped reduce their perfectly reasonable concerns about the quality, efficacy and supply chain integrity of generics.
With any luck the upshot will be “In a perfect world PHARMAC will fund it, but in the meantime generics are a viable option provided you have confidence in the supply chain.”
Moving forward I’m hopeful that will mean less emails like this from NZ:
Hi Dr Freeman,
I emailed you regards to my husband xxxxx, and you phoned me.
I have seen xxxxx’s GP and spoken to his specialist. neither
will script the drugs here in xxxxx NZ. What do I do
now? His specialist his happy to monitor him on the drugs
tho. He also said there is a risk of them being fake, where
do I go from here?

Hi there,
I am a new member. I have emailed through the contact page a couple of times and am receiving no reply.
Any thoughts or help getting in contact to discuss my case?
MerrinHi Merrin,
Sorry about that. We reconfigured the mail servers a few days ago and it looks like we broke the contact form.
It’s unbroken now.

The AUS rules are the expected PBS restrictions. The PEG/RIBA free ones are what I would want for my mum.

Cindi that is amazing……J’s treatment finishing soon…and a 16th birthday to celebrate! So glad everything has gone so smoothly and he is at School ready to tackle Year 11……..look forward to seeing his final results.
Dr Freeman advised me of the following “At 4 weeks post treatment UND means a 96% chance of absolute cure, and at 12 weeks UND means 99%”. Hope this helps your query.
Best wishes to you both.

Thanks Honker…..I have to admit that I am getting a bit nervous about finishing treatment…I feel “safe” while taking the meds knowing they are keeping the virus at bay. Yes there will be a few of us finishing soon I think. Hopefully I will have positive post 4 week and 12 week news to share.

Hi Zhuk Great news all round. Glad you are feeling much better. My insomnia has eased off the closer I get to the end of my treatment (10 days and counting)….still wake early but go straight back to sleep again. Sounds like you are breezing through
Honker I have had horrid headaches on and off and just take a couple of Neurofen….I was getting headaches before treatment too which I assume had something to do with the virus because I have never really suffered from headaches before…..
I see a Bowen Therapist who is amazing and has managed to keep my headaches at bay for now.
Cheers

If you have a look here you will see what it actually looks like:
http://fixhepc.com/forum/viral-load-and-svr/563-understanding-viral-load-testing.html
So the 35 refers to <35 being the lower limit of quantification. Below this we can often still see a "smudge" and that is <35 detected. You have a full "Not detected" although there was a technical problem with the test so they are saying "if it had worked properly we might have detected it".
Simple solution: Just do a qualitative detected undetected repeat.

I am going to have a holiday, destination unknown at this point. Not overseas or anything though, can’t afford that Had a dreadful couple of years…….my husband lost most of his right lung mid 2014 due to a huge infection (called a bulla) which went undiagnosed for at least 12 months. He was incredibly unwell and is still trying to get his stamina and health back on track. My best friend lost her son to cancer in the same year and then low and behold last year in March I was diagnosed with Hep C…….talk about killing a whole Chinese nation! Anyway enough doom and gloom…..have been able to work all the way through my treatment and as you say I am on the home stretch. The three months have gone by very quickly…….and I’m sure yours will too

Hi Honker
I am on Sof/Led for 12 weeks (Genotype 1b) as recommended by Dr Freeman so I can’t really comment on 8 weeks v 12 weeks. My stats are pretty much the same as yours. I’m sure Dr Freeman would be able to answer your query or other forum members more knowledgeable than I am in that area. Finish my treatment in about 10 days. I was undetected at 4 weeks but won’t be having another test done now until post four weeks off treatment. Sides very minimal (insomnia). Good luck with your treatment. Cheers Lynne

Thanks everyone
Should I request Dr Freeman on GP2u.com.au?
Should I gather all my test results (I will need to hunt them down) for the online appointment?

If you think about it the clue was provided by your brief trial of dose reduction and the sides improving.
Then when we took into account your average weight, and lack of medications that could be doing it we got into supplements, and then diet.
So really you not only helped cure yourself, you have probably saved a number of other people from having similar problems.
There is a real power in crowd sourced knowledge.

Hello Phoenix,
It is not even a slight worry. Only very low dose things like the mini pill require taking within a 3 hour daily window to be effective.
In the PROTON study people taking 200 mg of Sofosbuvir+Riba had a 90% SVR rate, versus a 91% rate for 400 mg. You are not taking mini-sofosbuvir.

What it means is this that they have not done enough tests to work it out!
Antigens are viral proteins.
Our body develops Antibodies in response to antigens and these antibodies are what protects us.
Hep B has both surface and core antigens (and an e antigen), so if you are infected you develop antibodies to both surface and core (and e)
With immunisation you get given surface antigen fragments so develop surface antibodies BUT do not get core antigen (so do not develop core antibodies).
Your test says they can find both surface Antigen and Antibody, suggesting you still carry Hepatitis B. A Hep B Viral DNA quantitative would answer the question (just as HCV Viral RNA does).
Here is more than you ever wanted to know….

I take one capsule of each a night (Led/Sof)……(I’m not on Riba) good luck with your treatment….
