I am seeing him on Thursday to get blood results and discuss the next step. I’m not very sick, so I guess if I go public I’ll be doing some waiting. I haven’t got insurance and very limited funds.
I rang the RBH hepetology and they said one month for cat 1 and four months for cat 2 (GP gets to choose a category so that might be useful). Mater seems to be 3 months for everyone. I only really want a fibroscan though so maybe there will be some way to get that. I’ll see what he says.
I’m not rushing into this anyway, having only discovered the possibility of buying these drugs recently. I’m not naturally trusting of pharmaceuticals and wondering if they have really got it right this time. So far it looks promising.
I am watching everyones progress with great interest and growing excitement and I am really furious at Gilead for making so many millions of people suffer needlessly. Not to mention the discrimination we have all had to face over the years.
Good luck with everything and keep us posted.

mild”Ah thanks…I guess its a lottery isn’t it. And a waiting game.
I’ve heard the hepatology nurses at the Mater are very nice and sympathetic so maybe I will give them a shot instead.
I guess I’m lucky I at least have a good GP…he was the one gave me the Hep C QLD factsheet on importing the drugs.
Hope everything goes well for you

mild”Hi Chejai,
I’m looking at visiting a Liver Clinic in Brisbane (mainly to get a fibroscan).
Can you tell me which hospital you had such a bad experience with? I know you say that specialist is gone now…but I still wanted to check if there was any clinics you knew of that I’d be wise to avoid.
Thanks
Sarah

I sometimes suspect that although my liver function tests have been good for that time I am still not fully healthy…dental problems and digestive problems galore, plus psoriasis make me think my liver is really not running all that well. My GP doesn’t credit it, but then for all his good intentions he really doesn’t know much about it. Seems dental problems are a big factor with Hep C from what I’ve been reading lately.
Last test two years ago was 1.4 million virus though so its obviously under control to some degree. I have been extremely careful health wise for a long time now though. New tests coming next week so we’ll see.
Anyway at least I was able to avoid the Interferon era, and now I am keen to say goodbye to this virus. I can handle rude specialists as long as they give me what I want but i’d love to find a really sympathetic one. It’s great to know there’s so much expertise and support online though.

mild”Hello everyone!
I’m just starting my journey towards the cure, though I’ve been wrestling with this disease for twenty years. I’m trying to choose a Liver Clinic in Brisbane to be referred to and I’m wondering if anyone had any experiences to share…warnings or recommendations?
I am lucky I have a very supportive GP but I need a specialist to help determine what combination I should go for. (Plus the Fibroscan of course). I’d like to avoid any unpleasant experiences such as described here.
How awful to be fighting on every front as we have all been for so long.
Love to you all
Sarah
