    @gaj

GAJ has aksed me to be kinder

No, I didn’t. I sent you a pm suggesting that you target the problem rather than patients who sing the praises of insurance companies and greedy pharmacuetical companies.

In the same way, VA are not really the problem. They are working with a government provided budget of X dollars to fund treatment for Y patients and are doing so with courses of medication that while not perfect are an unachievable dream for many in the US and the rest of the world.

In my view greedy pharmacuetical companies unfairly exploiting patent laws and how the governments and insurance companies interact with them are the problem.

My request is that we all use our anger constructively to work for changes in those areas and part of that process can and should be to apply pressure on the ‘system’ by advocating, educating and informing everyone about generic medications and how their pricing exposes the extortion being practiced by the pharma companies.

Hi price, while it shouldn’t be necessary to keep secrets in a fair world it is the public stigma and negativity associated with hepatitis C that causes cheese and many others here to hide their illness, sometimes to avoid ostracism themselves but often to protect their loved ones from others prejudices.

edit: perhaps be more mindful of your audience?

    Hi all,

I may be wrong but my understanding is that the SVR24 test came from the old Peg/Riba treatment which had higher late relapse rates. With the DAAs testing at 12 weeks gives similar predictability to the old regimes 24 week test so SVR12 is considered the standard by most authorities these days. Obviously it won’t hurt to have a SVR24 test (other than possibly your bank account) so if that gives you confidence further down the track go for it but don’t spend the extra three months stressing over it.

Edit: Dr James explains it far better than me.

Coffee is not an inhibitor or inducer of CYP3a4 went taking Daclatasvir. I suspect pat1 just meant that coffee didn’t agree with her while on treatment. One common item that may be a problem is Taurine which is found in many energy drinks and health supplement type things.

Speaking as a member of this forum, I am here to help spread the knowledge of DAAs, whether they be generic or branded, as a means of defeating the HCV pandemic.

I also think it is important for those of us who have already sought treatment to share our experiences and provide support and knowledge to those who are considering treatment or just starting out.

There is also an important role for those of us who wish to advocate for changes to the present system that restricts availability of these medications to the great majority of the 180 million people worldwide with HCV.

At the same time there will be opponents who will be seeking to denigrate our efforts and would no doubt relish the opportunity to quote us as advocating violence and other inappropriate or illegal methods. Please don’t allow them that opportunity, there are much better arguments that can be presented to refute claims by those who are attempting to protect their own or their employers interests at the expense others.

This is a widely read and respected forum with an international audience seeking our knowledge and guidance. Please take all of these factors into consideration prior to clicking on the submit button when posting here.

    A reminder to everyone:

Our goal is to provide a location for a warts and all discussion of Hep C in general and DAA treatment.

To allow that to occur the moderators allow reasonable expression of people’s thoughts and feelings on the subject without intervening but expect that you refrain from threats, goading, incitement and personal invective against your fellow members.

Thank you all in advance for adhering to these principles.

That is assuming he has that panel open in his setup (little blue +- tab to the right of the grey tabs) otherwise it can also be accessed by clicking on your user name to go to your profile and looking for the link under your avatar and details on the left hand side of the screen.

    Hi Glen,

Dr James doesn’t appear to be online at the moment. I assume you had a consultation with the doctor and he prescribed Sofosbuvir and was going to electronically forward your script to the pharmacy? I wonder if he mentioned the pharmacy and if it was called Kingswood? If that is the case then I believe they will accept the major credit cards so you should contact them to discuss whether they have received your script and how you should arrange payment. You will be able to find Kingswoods contact details via this link:

Hey, what can I say? Modern media likes to sensationalise everything.

While I agree that in an ideal world more precise language by the presenter may have been educationally helpful, after reviewing I wonder if that was not a deliberate ploy to keep the viewer attention focussed in a field where most people have little knowledge or often interest.
By the way, your statement that she is “completely wrong” in your attempt at dismissal is just you falling into a similar trap to her, assuming her words were not deliberately chosen. Here is the Oxford dictionary definition of contagious:

    Definition of contagious in English:

    contagious
    Pronunciation: /kənˈteɪdʒəs/
    ADJECTIVE

1(Of a disease) spread from one person or organism to another, typically by direct contact:

    And general ‘googly’ type definition:

    contagious
    kənˈteɪdʒəs/
    adjective
    1.
(of a disease) spread from one person or organism to another, typically by direct contact.
    “a contagious disease”
synonyms: infectious, communicable, transmittable, transmissible, transferable, spreadable; More

So her use of the qualifying word “highly” could mean that it is an infectious disease almost exclusively spread by contact, in this case blood to blood contact. Of course if she had used “very” to qualify then she would have been wrong.

English is such an imprecise language.
