I also took mine on waking. Set alarm, woke up and swallowed :)
I thought that best for ‘getting in the habit’ and remembering same time each day.
Kept meds by bedside in a daily labelled pill box, so brain fog didn’t confuse me about whether I’d swallowed the meds or not.

    All the best, LG

Dear Coral #flower – I am glad the sides you are having are not of the worst kind, but sorry you have to deal with them at the same time. I’m also very happy things are looking optimistic thus far :+1: You took a brave and clever step to ‘strike while the iron is hot’ – :+1: I am looking forward to hearing your good news and you know where I am if you ‘fancy a natter’ in the meantime #love

Hey Tatty, Yes, you can definitely hope for an improvement on the 4 week test :) You can post here and will get lots of good advise re your results. It’s helpful if you can put basic details such as genotype, VL, meds you are on and any previous treatment etc in your profile signature? This will help others to help you. Some truly good folk here, don’t know what I would have done without them!

Response to treatment really varies regarding how people feel…I started off feeling amazing, and loads better, then I got a chest infection and felt, well, dreadful! Then after that I was just incredibly tired all the time. Well, I do think when the body is healing , you need good quality sleep. Also, gentle exercise too.

I hope you don’t have to wait too long for your results, keep us posted, I’m sure there will be an improvement #flower

    LG

    Dear Wair,

You have made a very good decision and so lovely to read about you feeling better both mentally and physically #flower

You had a large VL to kill and when inflammation is reduced we realise what we have been living with for such a long time ! Delighted for you.

Be sure to test at around 8 weeks, just in case you need to extend a little (I did and am now clear of the virus, SVR 12), you may not need to, but it’s always good to have plan A, B and C, which is the great thing about this ‘alternative’ route, which in my opinion is superior.

I wish you the best of luck and good health from UK.

As well as the obvious, I like the fact it says “Redemption Trial “ for treatment.
I do hope this will encourage others who have been put on the back burner via their health authorities to investigate this pathway and also encourage NHS liver clinics to see the evidence and monitor more patients taking this route.

How are you doing on your treatment?
    Hope all is well

But in this case they are saying that if the HCV virus has made its way into a patient’s central nervous system/brain and if it is replicating there, then the normal protective blocking processes of the BBB may make it harder for the DAAs to reach the virus and stop it replicating.

Hmm .well, ‘make it harder’ could amount to a similar thing, no? Maybe not in a technical sense re cause, but with the possibility of a slower response outcome?

All v interesting, if rather complex! Not sure my brain has totally returned from the fog, although much improved

I am amazed to hear that “some prescribe” – This is an excellent step forward from the start of this year.

As Dr F says, “this is on a per consultant basis” . The problem for the NHS patient, is finding out who those consultants are, managing to contact them and getting an appointment sooner, rather than 6 months time.

I have never met my consultant at my current hospital, the specialist nurses seem to be dealing with treatments much more these days, but I guess the consultant needs to give the nod. Have found the nurses extremely supportive and kind. They did ask me not to broadcast this, but if any UK patients would like to PM me, I’d be happy to share my experiences with 3 different UK hospitals and 4 different consultants whose approach seem to vary quite a bit.

On my blood forms, it states ‘Redemption’ under treatment. It brings a tear to my eye to see! Those of us who have been around since 2015 know we have taken giant steps forward since those days thanks to Dr Freeman and Dr Andrew Hill’s amazing work getting the info out there to EASL and medics etc

    Very interesting indeed SCat,
“multidrug resistant proteins” – are these the RAVS that are talked about?

As I responded slowly to the meds, but still responded (and now SVR12) this is of interest to me, could this be connected to Neurological and Cryoglobulin disorders? I had terrible back, hip and pelvic pain pre treatment, could hardly walk. Also I was losing weight and it appeared not absorbing proteins etc properly.

Blood tests flagged up very low triglycerides pre treatment. There was so little to read about low trigs. most articles focused on fatty liver and high trigs, very few articles on low ones and really had to search hard. Always in the minority me ! ;) These tests were flagged up in a private blood test under the cholesterol section, my hospital(s) didn’t routinely test those. I always ‘knew’ there was something I didn’t quite get to the bottom of, there was some discussion on this forum re this if I remember correctly. My feeling is this kind of info could indeed be helpful pre treatment with DAAs, but it seems a very complex area and no doubt NHS patients would need to pre test privately. I also instinctively feel VitB12 may could play a part in my own case.

One of my consultants had a full-time heamotologist in their liver clinic, handy I would say !

I read that Vitamin B12 and D are helpful for neurological pain, interesting as these two supplements are the ones recommended to take during treatment, especially the B12 I believe.
