Hi Ann Bee, This was how I was diagnosed, severe joint pain , I could barely walk and hardly sit up, in pain at night to, lying down.
Pain was pelvic region, lower back, hips, whole of pelvic region , at times hard to tell where pains were coming from.
I still have a mild form of it now some nights.
Can’t say I’m looking forward to going through that again I must say.
Well done for getting through it and wishing you well.

Interesting about the virus talking longer to eradicate from the brain. I have been reading about the Ebola nurse who is in the Royal Free in London. They eradicated the virus, she went back to her usual life then became ill again and readmitted to the Royal Free, Yesterday I read, that the Ebola isn’t back, but she has contracted Meningitis. Their theory is that a few stray Ebola virus’ remaining in her brain caused this. Thankfully, she is on the mend again now , although the Drs say she sill be with them for a long time yet before she is well again.

    Hi Sandy,
I wonder if this is worse if you have suffered joint pain pre treatment? Or if it’s age related ? Maybe condition of liver too and immune response pre treatment?
    Just a thought.

It does seem to make sense to me, that if the virus is causing joint pain, then the meds may cause the same response while attacking the virus as the virus tries to ‘fight back’? It would be interesting to see which patients have this joint pain on treatment and which don’t.

I have suffered terrible joint pain, mostly around pelvis, lower back and hips, so suspect I may be a candidate for more of this when I treat. I found good quality Epsom salts in a warm bath was the only thing that helped at the time and a Magnesium tab from a quality manufacturer. I’m not sure if these are permitted while on treatment and would love to know re that. Also a sauna helped.

Are your joints red and inflamed or is it just joint pain?
(Edit) btw I took an anti-inflammatory when I had joint pain , it made me so ill, I will never go near one again.

Hi DT, I do have a couple of concerns and a symptom slightly worrying me, it may well be nothing, but you would think you could ask your consultant? If they’re not treating you and not observing your liver or symptoms, what is the point of going to see them? And why are they being paid to see you? A letter or phone call would have been the cheaper option all round.

I wasn’t offered bloods or fibro, no observations taken even though my previous consultant had noted a few. The point is, I was told ‘I am not going to do anything for you in any area’ for 8 months and you are right in that he said the nurses would be dealing with it. I asked if he could guarantee 8 months , he said No’.

It is the feeling for many patients here, that when we wait months for an appointment, travel to it etc and they make you feel guilty for asking for any help in any area and like you are a worthless beggar that I find immoral.

Hi Zhuk! Real waste of NHS money, costly consultant sitting there all day, not treating any patients.
He also said ‘ We are not interested in symptoms, only the liver’
I said ‘What if the symptoms concern the liver’?
He just stared at me and asked me if I’ve read much.
My response ‘I’ve been reading every day for the last 18 months but I am not a Dr’
He was basically saying, they will no longer check you out either,
So if you have any HepC complications, forget being looked at.until they make you so Ill they can no longer ignore.
He told me to ‘go to my GP.
Felt like saying ‘I did, and he referred me to a hepatologist’ but managed to keep quiet.
My old hepatologist was lovely, It seems they are laying off the older, more qualified & experienced Drs and replacing with young, txt book less qualified types to sit in the hospital all day telling patients they cannot treat them yet.

Don’t believe what your read about dental care here, if you live in a town and are not lucky enough to have a good NHS dentist for years, you will pay double the price of most other Euro countries for a private one.
When I’ve got rid of this virus, a trip to Spain, Germany or Poland etc to fix my teeth .
There may be a few NHS dentists around, but they’re not the dentists you’d choose to visit!

I went to UK liver clinic yesterday.
Told ‘no treatment for minimum 8 months ‘
And ‘if I wanted to be monitored I would have to pay privately IF there were any Drs with space’

Hi DT – My first hospital didn’t check for resistance, they just told me I must have Hep A and B vaccinations. ASAP. Luckily I don’t just do As I’m told even though they told my GP to ensure I did this.

I changed hospital and new hospital did a routine check for all Hepatitis – Which was nice as I as going to check for immunity privately, so then it came back I was immune, as I suspected as I lived abroad for a while. So no need to have the vaccine. Hospital never discussed, so I don’t know if they would offer it, rather they’d tell you to go to your GP and get it. I believe you can get them free if your hospital recommends you need them to your GP.

Think I will save the HepA vaccination until my liver is feeling a bit better.

My hospital routinely checked to see if I had resistance to HepB – I do but I was vaccinated years ago. I would say it’s definitely worth checking to see if you are immune before having more?
