Thank you so much, Dr. Freeman. I appreciate that you provided this information to me, a non-medical person. I do have a propensity for analyzing and am driven by the need to understand. I went from being an electronics technician to special education teacher (middle school science) to educational diagnostician, all areas that require an analytical mind. Again, thank you. I appreciate that you did not pat me on the head and tell me to leave this to the professionals. It’s quite refreshing, to say the least.

Follow up on my above topic. The reason I would like to know the answers to these questions is to help guide my recovery/healing. It’s hard to know how to treat symptoms without knowledge of their cause.

Hello. I completed tx with Harvoni about a month ago. The virus was undetected at weeks 4 and 8 of treatment and I won’t be tested again until 12 weeks post tx. I funded my own liver panel lab tests two weeks after eot and then again three days ago. My ALT and AST levels had risen on the first one but still in normal range. On the second test they had both risen more, ALT 30 which is just out of normal range.

So, my question is: Can edible cannabis taken a week prior to lab test cause elevations in liver enzymes? I had tried a commercial cannabis lemonade (I live in California) three nights in a row about a week before this last lab test. I also smoke each night for my insomnia. I have smoked nightly for about 3 years. I am very worried that the virus is not gone since my enzymes have stepped up more on each test. Also, this last test was done in late afternoon and I had fasted only for 6 hours prior.

I completed 8 weeks of tx with Harvoni last Monday. The virus was undetected at 4 weeks and again at 8 weeks. Here are the supplements that I continued to take throughout treatment.

    B Complex (methylated form)
    Complete Mineral Complex
    Omega 3 (fish oil)
    Multivitamin (Erewhon store brand)
Vitamin C powder (in my daily health smoothie)
    Alpha Lipoic Acid
    Probiotics
Now I am also taking Silymarin and Acetyl-L Carnitine. I plan to restart taking CoQ10 and Glutathione, too. All supplements (other than the multivitamin of which I am not certain of) are of high quality.

I also made a daily morning smoothie with:
Almond milk, blueberries, cranberries, apple, fresh ginger, kiwi fruit, banana, avocado, whole raw almonds, flax meal, pumpkin seeds, organic grass fed whey protein.
I have now added kale and barley grass powder to the smoothie since EOT.

Anyway, so many people are worried about supplements during treatment, but I was concerned more about damage from the drug.
    Time to heal!

Regarding the high serum levels of B12. I just recently read that because B12 is stored in the liver, if the liver is not healthy, more B12 might be circulating in the blood since the liver cannot effectively store it.
