I had a root canal on 3/26/18. My blood work a few weeks earlier showed 115 Glucose when fasting and a Creatinine of 1.04. I started to take a brisk walk for 60 minutes daily. My weight dropped from 158 to 143 because of the dental issues. I was wondering if the sudden increase in exercise for a 67 yr old together with the weight loss could account for the rise in my AST and ALT.(see signature) They are still in normal range. My Glucose is down to 83 and Creatinine .88 now that the infection is gone.

Hello beahavan,

This change

2/22/18 ALT 19 AST 25
7/10/18 ALT 26 AST 32

is unremarkable. The remarkable thing is that your ALT/AST are so stable! We expect these values to wander:

aasldpubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/fu...?scrollTo=references

ALT released in the blood is catabolized in the liver with a resulting plasma half life of 47 ± 10 hours, which is considerably longer than that of AST (17 ± 5 hours).1 ALT activity varies day to day, by 10% to 30%. Within a given day, there is a significant diurnal variation, with ALT activities being up to 45% higher in the afternoon than in the early morning.

Did you perhaps have this blood draw in the afternoon?

I would suggest either repeating it in 2 weeks or doing a PCR to put your mind at ease.
YMMV

Hi Beahavan,
Regarding to your question,
I thing I had almost same experience before like you. But little different.
I was in tiring days and my feet hurts while walking, in addition I got some cold during this period. It happened just end of the treatment.
When I did pcr rna test at the same time I did alt, ast test too. My alt and ast were high in the result but pcr rna result was undedected.
If you will do pcr rna I hope your result will be undedected too. Sending you best wishes!
Cheers.

You have put my mind at ease. Thank you. My schedule has been turned around because of the heat wave in California. It was 116 degrees on 7/6. It has stayed hot. I had my blood tested at 9AM on 7/10 but I had been up since 2AM. I go to bed in a room with a small air conditioner at 6PM. I walk from 5AM to 6AM. In the hot summer I go to bed at 6PM and wake up at 2AM. I guess 9AM would be my afternoon. My previous blood test on 2/22 was done at 9AM but I awoke at a normal hour because it was cool outside. This could explain the variation.

My fasting Glucose just tested at 83. I checked my old lab results and the last time I had that number was 2008. Walking does reduce blood sugar levels very effectively. Prior to my dental issues my Glucose stayed around 97. I'm keeping the walking as part of my routine.
