Hi I need to know of low doses of Kratom will effect my treatment on mavyret. I have genotype 3a and have a treatment period of 8 weeks. Please can anyone tell me if Kratom will interact with mavyret?? I have severe chronic back and joint pain but don’t want to ruin my chances of cure. Thank you

Hi Gable , welcome to the forum, and congratulations on starting treatment. Mavyret is a really excellent drug and you should be very optimistic about reaching cure. Regarding the use of Kratom with Mavyret, a previous answer by Dr James Freeman, FixHepC's founder, on the forum states that Kratom should be avoided when treated with Daclatasvir medication, and that "it should be ok, but..." (so maybe best avoided) when treated with Epclusa medication, but he didn't comment about Mavyret medication in that thread fixhepc.com/forum/drug-interactions/1519...tom-usage.html#26432 Hopefully he will provide his opinion about it here.

It's worth noting though that the patient in the linked thread said "I felt so much better after finishing Epclusa I never bothered with kratom again".

While the strict answer is that "nobody knows" with respect to Kratom and Maviret it should be OK.

Both components of Maviret - glecaprevir and pribrentasvir - have what is called billary-faecal metabolism, which means (in English) they are excreted unchanged. As a result, they don't have a metabolism in the body which could be impacted by most other drugs.

You should take your Maviret with a meal - it will improve the absorption of both these drugs.

Now I’m a little worried because I have used some Kratom during my mayvret treatment . I have two weeks left. Should I be concerned that I hindered my cure??

Hi Hopeful, you shouldn't be worried, Dr. James said above that it should be OK and gave good scientific reason for it. However, if I were you, I would probably stop Kratom for the remaining 2 weeks, just to be on the very safe side.

Hello Hopeful425 it should be ok, but I do tell my patients you can’t get problems from drugs you are not taking...

With respect to your Kratom use during treatment, did it hinder it? Are you undetectable now? Also, how much were you using a day?

I used about 2 tablespoons of kratom . I did however quit using it the last two weeks of treatment, and found that I felt significantly better without it.
My test reported unidentifiable !!

Congrats on you being undetectable! That's great! So you only used 2 table spoons one time or regularly?
