I went for a scan today; last one 6 months ago was not good and luckily a few days later I saw a Greg Jefferys story, found my way here and now have about a month to go of 24 weeks. It was great to go see my specialist of 20 years, virus undetected, I've lost 20 kg, blood tests great etc. He was happy, having not been a believer at first, and has this excellent new machine. You can really see inside, The kidneys are almost like photos, it could check portal veins etc really clearly (all good) easily measure spleen (reduced). And it produced quite a detailed visual report with hot to cold zones red- orange- yellow- blue mapping the fibrosis areas. Mine is unevenly scarred, so I have quite a big section of blue area which is working well, and a red crusty part. It has me thinking, if any rogue resistant virus is still hiding, it will be in them thar hills.
I had thought I heard last time the fibro score was 13, pretty high. Today he was congratulating me on nearly halving it- down to 22- it was 40 last time! Glad I didn't know, but no wonder I feel better. Even if it turns out there is more treatment to go, (genotype 3 F4 etc is pretty stubborn) it was very satisfying to see pictures of how far back from the brink my liver has come in 6 months.
Genotype 3 30 years, 2x treatment interferon/ribavirin non responder. Cirrhosis 17 years. Fibroscan, decompensating, 40 down to 22 by 29/3/16- now down to 6.5, normal, no cirrhosis. Started Buyers Club Sof/Dac 14 Nov 15. SVR 12 29/0716

I will have to ask them to email me its name and stats. I gathered it was an ultra ultrasound. He spoke of algorithms and waves and lost me. I understood the pictures better.

Hi Hazel, It sounds like the new LiverMultiScan ? I was lucky to have this recently as part of a trial.

I know what you mean re seeing where the fibrosis is, mine is all in the center around the heart connections in the center and to the left. Same thoughts as you, I also reckon that's where the virus hides in me. It makes sense to me after some thought.

It also says to me that the traditional fibroscan could have varyable results because it seems to only detect fibrosis at one area of the liver, at the point of the probe ? My first fibro (2014) was taken near the center and was 8.7 , my more recent two to the right side (6.2 and 5.6) .Someone told me once that fibroscans paint quite an accurate picture as 'fibrosis is quite evenly spread' ... Hmmm Really mine isn't for sure! Which could explain my varying diagnostic results.

I will get around to posting my colour snap of my insides at some point :)

Good to hear you've had an improvement, my very best wishes to you for the perfect end result .

It was prophetic that I called this thread liver pictures: look what my lovely youngest daughter Meg has made for me, a living liver picture.
She is an artist, piano player, 3rd year jewellery student and a wonderful support. #love #love #love #love

Hi all,
I've been quiet lately, trying to concentrate on exams coming up. Checking in to share my encouraging news for those who are F4- cirrhosis is reversible! Had a scan yesterday, has gone from 40kp pre treatment, was 22 at end of tx, and now, coming up SVR 24, has dropped to 9.2kp.
So - I had hep C 30 plus years- don't now. I had cirrhosis, 18 plus years- don't now. Takes some getting used to. I realised that my specialist, same guy, has given me 2 biopsies, about 20 or more scans, 2 rounds of interferon/rib- this was the biggest, fastest drop he has seen. He must have seen so many recover on interferon- yet the liver doesn't seem to recover like it has on DAA's. They must set off regeneration somehow, not just kill virus.

I'd be more inclined to suspect that the old treatment interfered with the body's ability to regenerate.

I also wonder whether the body might respond to the rapid virocide by pumping out various hormones .... specifically, I'm wondering if the big energy bump at 2-6 weeks (and the early waking, weird dreams, etc.) might be from something like a big boost in HGH.

Is that even possible?
