The reason I post a lot on FixHepC is that I believe it is now THE reference site for legally accessing generic HCV treatment.
Our posts are being read by more and more people who are desperately looking for treatment.
But also they are being read more and more (I believe) by doctors, lawyers, regulators, activists, advocates, key decision makers, and maybe even politicians.
Me, I am hoping at the very least that the people in the French and UK Health Services are following what’s going on here.
Obviously its a political issue. But please, please, please can we keep gun laws and terrorists out of the argument?
Thank you for your understanding.

Agree completely, Wullie. And thanks Mike!
Plenty of other places on the internet for spirited non-HVC related political debate.
I do hope France breaks though on this. If its going to happen anywhere on the Western side of the EU, France is probably where it happens first.

7/07/16 UND SVR 2427 June 2016 at 6:06 pm #19992Something unusual happens this summer, after France, Romania announces also that starting from October/November this year, the HCV patients with easier forms of HCV will be able to access the interferon-free therapy (at least this is what the CNAS’s president [CNAS is something similar with NHS] declared some days ago). In addition to this, it was also revealed that the previous allocated budget was not entirely used….. One might think that Romania is almost free of HCV…..
BUT, did anyone talked about the barriers in accessing the therapy? One need to get a special kind of voucher from his/her doctor in order to make the blood tests and how to obtain these vouchers is not so clear. What is sure is that if you do not make the blood tests using these vouchers, let’s say one makes it with own money, the access to the interfon-free therapy is denied. Perhaps I am wrong, but I do remember how unclear it is was some months ago for me to get this voucher (which I did not received) ….
So what’s the point to declare patients have access to interferon-free therapy as long as the “how to” get it is unclear? To me it looks more like a nice political statement, but not so efficient in the implementation. And politics is important in these months because the elections are near…
I look forward to see how France moves the things on,
Cheers,
RHF

SVR52 achieved30 July 2016 at 6:53 pm #21686Hello Everybody,
a small update from Romania:
– 1 month ago I was posting that from Oct/Nov this year, the patients with easier forms of HCV might have access to interferon-free therapy in Romania.
– couple of days ago, a news appeared in the media from Romania where it was disclosed that the government no longer has the money for the treatment and that some negotiations are currently taking place in order to treat ~2300 patients with de-compensated cirrhosis (article in RO language here: http://stirileprotv.ro/stiri/sanatate/tratamentul-fara-interferon-pentru-bolnavii-de-hepatita-c-guvernul-a-constatat-ca-nu-mai-are-bani-pentru-toti-pacientii.html – the website belongs to a well known TV station from Romania). So the patients are going now from optimism to pessimism. In parallel there is a national awareness campaign for detecting hepatitis B&C, advising the patients to see a doctor in order to find the proper treatment (as hepatitis C may be cured). But when visiting the doctors, the patients get the answer that they have to wait…and wait…. and wait….. And to make things even worse, the possible cure via generic drugs is not discussed at all, rather it is put in the same boat with the action of “buying drugs over the internet” which is shown as being very risky and having tricked many people so far.
This makes me so eager to see how France is handling the “promise” to enable the access to treatment for all patients. And also to see how things will develop in Australia till the end if this year.
Cheers,
RHF
