For those of you who don’t know the lady in the photo is our own Hazel Heal and she’s standing next to Dr Raymond Schinazi who was the scientist that gave the world not only sofosbuvir for Hepatitis C but also the backbone HIV drugs 3TC (lamivudine) and FTC (emtricitabine) which see use in Truvada, Atripla, Complera, Stribild, Descovy, Genvoya, Stribild, Odefsey, and Eviplera.

Thanks for posting this Dr James. Dr Raymond Schinazi is one of the greatest scientists of the century, he is the first to find a cure for a virus, his work saved countless lives. Really nice photo Hazel, you both look great

But you beat me to it, a couple of years ago !

Genotype 3 30 years, 2x treatment interferon/ribavirin non responder. Cirrhosis 17 years. Fibroscan, decompensating, 40 down to 22 by 29/3/16- now down to 6.5, normal, no cirrhosis. Started Buyers Club Sof/Dac 14 Nov 15. SVR 12 29/0716

Hi Hazel, well that’s a blast from the past.

While I’m in the middle and Dr Schinazi is on the right the person on the left is Dr Sherine Helmy. His company Pharco, through its subsidiary European Egyptian Pharmaceutical Industries, has manufactured the medication used to treat over 1 million Egyptians and is the first generics company outside of India to pass the rigorous WHO pre-qualification process for their generic Sofosbuvir.
