Post away rock & roll!
Gilead reached around $120 per share a couple of months ago. I would like to think the shareholders are sweating a little now. But many countries would envy the money they have to play with.
I would imagine they have Zika in their crosshairs now. Cutting edge saviors of mankind or greedy opportunists.
My vote has been cast….

Yeah, right, Pamela. I’m all in favour of animal rights. But what about human livers? There are approximately 4 million in the USA and 750 million world-wide that could easily be saved?

I have thought this too V, and add to that list now cured (via peg/inf) Mr Steve Tyler of Aerosmith, who could help as well. I recall the breaking down of stigma and the support for HIV by stars and royalty alike, and the global awareness of poverty with Geldof’s We are The World, people won Grammy Awards, received Queens honours and so on…these are worthy causes indeed. These are causes that should be incessantly lobbied, yes.
The stats on HCV are still really unknown I think , we only can go by who has been tested, and I don’t like to think about the lack of testing in less developed countries with an unwell GDP and little ability to run on Primary Resources or to develop sustainable infrastructure in Health, Housing and Education. ick:' />
I am sure a projection could be made by a statistician as to the probable number of infected people based on those of us who have been accounted for, and the other data coming into play.Lately many people with public profiles have died as a result of the ongoing fight with HCV. I thought that when Bowie passed away his high profile might have urged some of these rockers to get together and speak up.
I think 2016 we will witness more loss. I hope that these people who have huge social media presence, who have global music markets and the finances to actually break stigma, raise awareness and to assist the global eradication of HCV come to the party.
Thank you for your post, you spoke my language,

SVR243 February 2016 at 5:25 am #11076Hi re_roll,
The trend has been downwards since July last year and they are back to mid 2014 price now. They have more competition entering the market, both patent and generic and they have generated a lot of bad publicity recently. As I’ve noted previously the majority of the market is made up of mature long term investors who don’t seem all that impressed with the current strategy. Though I have no doubt that when Velpatasvir launches, the fast money will move in again and create another short term blip.

Excerpts:
The rationing of therapy to those with advanced liver disease, also calls into question the ethical consequences of the recommendations of the CDC and other health related organizations and societies to screen individuals for the disease if no treatment is to be made available to those identified as having the disease. To do so under these circumstances only produces anguish and inappropriate fear in those identified as having the infection.
We believe that treatment should include all HCV infected patients including those with stage F0-F2 fibrosis with or without evidence of coexisting liver disease. Specifically, interferon (IFN)-free regimens with the current effective DAAs without liver staging requirements and including those without evidence of hepatic diseases but having recognized extrahepatic manifestations of HCV infection is projected to be the most cost-effective approach for treating HCV in all of its varied presentations.

This is why I do what I do. Medical treatment should not be denied to poor people.
The fundamental question: What is more important, corporate profits or peoples’ lives?
If the government can’t afford to treat it’s vets and poor, then the price of the treatment is too high.IT

And what is worse is that I think Gilead always knew that it would not get away with this extortion indefinitely, but it cynically calculated that it would get away with it long enough, to cash in enough, to make it worth while becoming the pariah that it now is.
I think that the spotlight should move from Gilead to all the agencies and bodies who have let this happen without speaking up till now. Their objections now are too little, too late. By the time they actually make any changes, if they ever do, Gilead will have got away with all the profits it always intended to make from Sofosbuvir and Harvoni, over the bodies of the countless dead. It is probably in cahoots with all these Johnny-come-latelys and dividing up the swag as I write. Heads should roll but, if the 2008 financial debacle is anything to go by, I doubt that they will.

11 February 2016 at 9:14 pm #11747I could not agree more Mike.
In the UK our NHS was formed for this and one of our great achievements. The current government are selling it off bit by bit. Unless they have someone sick in their family, the general public are unaware. There will be a two-tier system, basic health care for the poor with long waiting lists etc etc and the rich will just pay for private health insurance.
Apparently, there is a charity being set up right now to help the 50+ age group when the NHS is gone. We wont be able to get insurance when we’re in our 70s and the NHS will be unrecognisable. The public are sleep-walking into it. I know someone who is working for this charity.
Frustrating and infuriating and not in line with a ‘civil society’.

Or just enslave the poor and make their masters pay for their healthcare.
It is just unbelievable.
