The reason The buyers club was offering an API from China as opposed to say
Twinvir is due to the fact they could not avail of Twinvir at that time.

An API is the active ingredients in the drug.

Twinvir or any other Generic is made from an API sourced from various countries
including China you are taking the equivalent of these drugs.

The only difference in how you purchased, you bought the drugs in raw form from
China. The buyers club takes your API tests it and then encapsulates them.

Encapsulating equals putting the API(Powder) into a capsule you can swallow.

You have nothing to worry about.

Note; The questions you both have are appreciated, this thread is going off Topic a such if you have questions about APIS
and the difference between various drugs please, put them in a separate thread.

    Don’t panic!

An API is what is known as the “Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient” ie Sofosbuvir or Ledipasvir.

If you take Gilead as an example the APIs for Harvoni are made in Jordan.

This chemical powder is then shipped to Ireland where the two parts are mixed with glue, lactose (milk sugar), fibre, disintegrant, sand, wax and pressed into tablets.

The extra bits are called excipients and can be used to control rate of release but in the case of Harvoni it’s a fast release instant dissolution.

    Harvoni Excipients:

    • Copovidone (glue)
    • Lactose monohydrate (sugar)
    • Microcrystalline cellulose (fibre)
    • Croscarmellose sodium (disintegrant)
    • Colloidal anhydrous silica (sand)
    • Magnesium stearate (wax)

What you have is the APIs mixed with Microcrystaline cellulose in a capsule that, like Harvoni releases the API rapidly. The other parts of the tablet are only used to make the table stick together, and then dissolve in your stomach. It’s cheaper to make a tablet than a capsule which is why they are commonly used.

There are now hundreds of people now have taken Sofosbuvir/Ledipasvir in this form and are at viral load zero.

The APIs in both Twinvir and your medication came from China (different large scale factories). They are chemically identical the the APIs in Harvoni and you can read the testing reports about that here: Testing Provisions Patient Safety.

    Hello Dr Freeman, Hello world!

Please can you explain the REDEMPTION trials a bit more? Is this essentially something that you are organising with The Club? Does it mean that you will be asking the members to send you their treatment results?

If so, I would like to say that this is really another GREAT INITIATIVE from Down Under, and it must be one of the best ways possible to show ordinary GPs that it is OK to prescribe DAAs… Me personally, I will be happy to participate (my own wire transfer to The Club went through a few days ago, I think…;).

Lets all help to Bust the Scare-Mongering Myths About “Generics” and Buying From “Abroad”!!

The trials are simply to gather evidence that Generics do work they also provide
an opportunity to offer access to treatment to as many people as possible.

I don’t think the plan is to add in anyone who has bought over the last few weeks.

Two reasons stand to mind; 1; The price point for the buyer club is not the same
    as the Redemption Trials.
2; The Buyers club was only offering two drug options from one
source in China. The Trials are offering more drug choices from a variety of suppliers in Bangladesh.

What information are you looking for London Girl?

My question relates to the Corevigen single pill combo of daclatasvir and sofosbuvir that is to be used in the Redemption 2 trial, my question is does anyone know when that corevigen is going to be available?

Ok, just got that answered, looks like mid november target date, but only after thorough testing is complete and tests good.

Hi Dr Freeman, here’s hoping that consultants in the NHS will acknowledge this worldwide trial and will monitor treatment if a person is on it.
Also is there a limit to how many can go on the sof/led trial? Could I put my name down now?
    Thanks, Deb
