    @bob-in-ireland

    Just got a bit of positive news– undetectable – although they are concerned about shady area showing up on ultrasound scan–had an ultrasound scan 6 months prior wasnt there then– was told could be a bad scan by inexpereinced tecchy or bad interpretation or worse cas scenario a nodule/or cancer…yikes– no cancer indicators in my latest bloods– so they are sceduling an MRI scan to get a better look

    still am glad I ve hit the undetectable point lets pray and hope for an SVR

    best from

    Pleased to read you’re UND week 9 :+1: and good luck with the more detailed scan. I’m suprised they can see anything much at all if Ireland have similar USound scan equip to the ones we have locally to me here in England!

    Hi Bob,

    Did you buy your meds online? Just wondering about hassle getting them into the country, I’ve trawled the threads for anyone with experience getting them into Ireland. Any advice or knowledge gleaned from your experience would be hugely appreciated, thanks.

    Hi Mike, didnt have to go that route as I am F3 and have varices -which was the main criteria for getting the meds thru the HSE –

    I am pretty sure getting the generics wont be a problem — i am sure there some folk here who have done it in ireland– if not you could always fly out and bring back the meds with you ?
    good luck

    I had MRI scan of liver – no carcinoma/nodules etc. did pick up the 4 varices – consultant wants me to up the dose of beta blockers to reduce pressure on portal hypotension– so i was told i have precompensated liver disease with portal hypotension.
    still undetectable at halfway point– whether to take riba for last month as addition is on my mind any ideas?
    pllatelets gone up from 42,000 to 59,000 in last month and white blood cell count is up as well – alts 67 .
    dont feel too bad – bit of tiredness and headaches occasionally.
    from Bob

    @fixhepc

    Cirrhotics respond slower.

    The rise in platelets is encouraging, suggesting your portal pressures have fallen and you spleen shrunk a bit.

    With portal hypertension using beta blockers looks to me to be a historical hangover. They were one of the first effective antihypertensive medications but the sides include tiredness and sexual dysfunction issues.

    ACE inhibitors also work and this has been known since 1992!

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1586932

    And rediscovered in 2013!

    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3627462/

    Here is some detailed commentary on it:

    http://f1000.com/prime/reports/m/6/95/

    The driving issue for you is HCV. Fixing that will go a long way towards fixing the problem and preventing progression.

    YMMV

    @bob-in-ireland

    Hi James , thanks so much for some clarity on the betablocker issue–i was taking only 20mg at night– but am very sensitive to anything like that- I was wondering where my libido had gone,was feeling lethargic in the mornings- I phoned my consultant and asked whether she would prescribe an ACE inhibitor as a substitute to the beta blockers– didnt get a positive response wouldnt do it -and my local gp is scared about treading on my consultants toes.. so I might drop the betas altogether -most nights ive only been taking 10mg (reluctance to take them )

    I noticed that there are quite a few foods that contain ACE inhiibiting componenets such as :
    Casokinins and lactokinins, breakdown products of casein and whey, occur naturally after ingestion of milk products, especially cultured milk. .
    The lactotripeptides Val-Pro-Pro and Ile-Pro-Pro produced by the probiotic Lactobacillus helveticus or derived from casein have been shown to have ACE-inhibiting and antihypertensive functions.

    I did restart taking a good brand of probiotics with Lactobacillus helveticus in it- also I ve been starting to make homemade KEFIR

    this is an excellent link for info on ACE inhibiting foods materials
    http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/1541-4337.12051/full

    will boost up on some specific foods :) I ve cut out carbs almost completely – high protein grassfed lamb/beef etc loads of green veggie etc. cutting out stuff with sugar in has been quite a challenge– !!

    Thanks James
    will let you know how things unfold
    Blessings from the Emerald Isle
