Another really bad one is hepcentral delphi, the moderator there quickly removes any mention of generic drugs and prominently scolded me one time equating chinese generics to poison chinese dog food. She posts in huge letters that ” IT IS ILLEGAL TO IMPORT MEDICINE INTO THE US”.

Yesterday I posted this very simple, I thought non-controversial factoid, and it was scrubbed within 10 minutes. I posted it because all of the people on there were recoiling at the thought of taking medicine from India or China, when they don’t realize half the stuff they are already taking probably has api’s manufactured in India or China. With regard to generics at least, there is a lot of misinformation and censoring of good info on that site. Here’s what I posted and what the mod scrubbed:

“According to Boehringer Ingelheim, countries such as India and China, which now supply over 40% of APIs used in the U.S. will double that figure to a whopping 80% in just the next 10 years.”

I thought I read somewhere on this forum, Dr. Freeman stating that alcohol consumption does not affect the mechanism by which these DAA medicines work, and that it therefore was ok to have a pint once in awhile…just saying, I’m pretty sure I read that he said that, but if I’m wrong, and he did not say that, then someone please correct my misinformation.

Hi Gary, I have been taking them in the morning, when i started in Aus it was night but when i got back here, the night became morning and I have stayed on the morning schedule. At first I thought the 3 hour thing was one thing, but its weirdly consistent now. 3 hours of sleep and pow, im up.

Anybody else having sleep issues and maybe using any medication to help sleep? I’m on day 14, and now its like clockwork that when I fall asleep, I will wake up almost exactly 3 hours later, and be wide awake. It doesn’t matter when I fall asleep, whenever it is, 3 hours later, BOOM, like an alarm clock went off. then it will take me another 3 or 4 hours to fall back asleep and by then its time to get up and go to work, so its an issue.

Not an issue that I wont gladly be happy to have to get rid of this, but I’m thinking maybe I need something to keep me sleeping past that 3 hour mark.

I can’t take ambien or any kind of hypnotic sleep med because I get up and walk around in my sleep with those things, dangerously so. Other than the 3 hour sleep cycle and some weird and intense dreams, I got nuthin to complain about so far as side effects.

well that would also cure the epidemic and eventually make them lose their supply of customers., Not so sure they really want that to happen–like tobacco companies need a steady supply of new customers.

You might be right, I think there is a lot of this going on. On that other board when I posted something criticizing Gilead, I was scolded by the moderator, who told me ” A lot of us owe our lives to Gilead and we don’t like to see negative comments posted about them”.

When I noted on there how I was getting refused treatment by the insurance co I was advised to “pray”, “wait”, and apply to Gilead’s now defunct patient assistance program, and it was defunct when they were advising me to apply to it.

Hopefully anyone on there who actually needs access isn’t going to sit there and “pray” and finds their way here.

Yes Mike, I know the “fear”, I felt it and worried about it until I decided, F-it, they’re gonna have to beat me down to take this medicine away from me.. I think and know that some of that fear is actively promoted on other hepc boards. The one I used to read before I found this, hep central delphi has a moderator that immediately deletes any reference to fixhepc or generics, scolds anyone who mentions it, and writes in big bold letters that it is ILLEGAL to import medicine into the US. She called medicine from China “poison” and equated it to poison chinese dog food. She is suppressing a lot of good information and spreading a lot of misinformation. I have to wonder if she and that board are getting money from Gilead. They also praise Gilead on that board as if it were a benevolent god. Most of the people on that board however seem to for some reason be smug lucky duckies who were given medicine at no cost and with no problems, not sure why. I am concerned though about the active promulgation of misinformation on that board and others that may be dissuading people from getting cured.

For those importing to the US, whether by mail or on their person, as noted by others it helps to have documentation (officials and bureaucrats love cya “documentation”;).

Prior to getting my meds, I read everything I could on the vague FDA/sustoms mishmash and I came across references to the FDA “Orange Book”. I read somewhere that customs officials sometimes consult the Orange Book when they are trying to figure out if a medicine is OK to come in. I looked it up, and the Orange Book lists the generic versions of Daclatasvir and Sofosbuvir, so I printed those out and had them with my medication in case I had to have those conversations.

A link to the Orange book is here: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cder/ob/
IF you read down a little, theres a search box for the “active ingredient” you want to look up.
If for example, you type in daclatasvir, it brings you to this, a handly little synopsis about generic daklinza: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cder/ob/docs/tempai.cfm

Here’s the one for sofosbuvir: http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cder/ob/docs/tempai.cfm

It might be overkill, but you never know, it might be the extra piece of paper that gets your meds through, I figure it can’t hurt to have it traveling with your medication documentation.

Good luck to all on their imports. (Damn, 11 days into medicine and I’m wide awake after onlyl 3 1/2 hours of sleep, there is a definite sleep deprivation side effect going on for me at this point).

Hi Coral, good to hear from you, so you were travelling to NY? New York City I presume, because really hardly anyone in the rest of the world travels to the “upstate” hinterlands where I am. Not sure from your post, you already made the trip? hope you travel goes, or will go well, along with your medical ‘journey;.

working on my 10th day, so far nothing, just wide awake when i wake up and some really bizarre dreams that seem to reach deep into really old molecular memories for material–not like anything I’ve had before, weird. But physically, nothing, I feel fine.

I just came through US customs yesterday with my prescriptions from Dr. Freeman and filled and in labeled packaging from the pharmacy. Like Khilde said, they didn’t ask me about it and I didn’t say anything about it. I had them in the bag with other various and numerous medicines I brought from the US just to add a confusion factor. I had all my documentation and a conversation ready to go if I needed it, but it was simply a non event. Sofosbuvir and Daclatasvir for my 2b genotype, popped first ones down the hatch the first day, on my 8th day now and feel fine.

Hi Coral, im on m 8th day of daclatasvir and sofosbuvir I went to Australia to obtain, and personally carried back to US (I was ready to brawl if they tried to take them away from me, but my passage through customs turned out to be totally uneventful other than the ridiculous mile long line that took 3 hours). While in Aus I also had the pleasure of meeting Emilio who is as great a guy in person as he is on here. Anyway, the first morning after first pills my eyes popped open like the light switch was turned on. the next few days have been somewhat similar, when i wake up, Im AWAKE. Which to me all in all is a good thing, because before I was always tired and it was s struggle to get awake and out of the bed, so this is better for me personally. Other than that, I have noticed nothing different, other than the dull abdominal pain and bloat feeling I used to often get hasn’t been around since I started. I’ve had this since, 1985 or so, GT 2B, last told I was F2 and have always had a weirdly low viral load, in the 100,00 to 200,000 range. My liver tests have been elevated but generally no more than 30 points above the high limit. Anyway, good luck, I think you’ll be fine with side effects, they don’t seem to be significant at least from my experience
