Us ordinary mods can’t alter the structure of the forum Mike. We are, to use soccer parlance, water carriers

Doc James and Em are your men for that.

I read a very similar article a few days ago Paul:

    http://www.alternet.org/economy/pill-cures-hepatitis-costs-just-4-if-you-live-america-its-1000

I didn’t previously link to it because it contains some serious factual errors. The drug on sale in India is not the one developed at Cardiff Uni, it’s a licensed copy of the Gilead one, as we all know. The drug developed at Cardiff Uni is INX-189, which ended up being taken on by BMS and re-named BMS-986094:

    http://www.cardiff.ac.uk/news/view/54235-purchase-deal-over-hepatitis-drug

It was a disaster for BMS, and they dropped it during trials after one patient died of heart failure and several others became seriously ill:

    http://www.natap.org/2012/HCV/080312_01.htm

BMS eventually settled US$80 million out of court:

    http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424127887324539304578261782310743030

On a side note does anyone know how BMS are getting on with their Daclatasvir+Asunaprevir+Beclabuvir DAA combination therapy?

If anybody has an issue with a post or poster, they should report it to Moderation. I would have deleted the post by sergey01, but dtdwfhpc ( couldn’t you have chosen an easier user name? ) has quoted it in a reasonable rebuttal. Like Vororo, I’ve bumped dtd’s karma back up.

Not with me it wasn’t. The point that it really started to bug me was when it happened shortly after we sat down in a Frankie and Bennys to treat the kids to a pizza, not long after I’d put my phone on the dining table.

It seems that ‘vibrating phone syndrome’ isn’t exclusive to us heppers:

Which is kind-of good news for me because I’ve been getting the odd twinge in the last couple of weeks, in the countdown to my SVR test :( .

    Well P,
In some cases, yes. Take the Delphi crew for example. Anything Chinese or Indian is a “no no”. I talked to a Chinese chemistry professor at our flagship state university about the Chinese peoples’ perception of Chinese drugs. His answer: They prefer to buy non-Chinese whenever possible. I think the dog food, baby formula and lead based painted toys from China have created a false impression among many that Chinese products in general are not to be trusted.
With Indian meds, its the scam artists who have done the damage.
Education and proven, successful experiences can change these perceptions.
That will simply take some time.
    And effort.
That is what I am trying to do in my own small way. People in the U.S. Are reading our posts and taking the leap. Since I put my e mail address in my signature, I have gotten 40-50 reports of successful importation from people I have never had any contact with. They all say the same thing: Saw you and those other folks stories and advice on fixhepc. Decided I could do it too. Thank you so much.

    We will get there.
    Mike

Yes, I noticed that on the (now closed) generics thread on Medhelp, Mike. Chinese posters absolutely would not consider Chinese meds, claiming that Mesochem product was ‘proven’ to be fake. And they preferred to import BMS Daklinza from Japan @ UD$12,000 rather than use the Mesochem stuff @ less than US$200! We live in a world where prejudice of all types often takes precedence over logic.

All the Indian ones are made under license from Gilead, exactly to their formula. All the Bangladeshi ones have been found in independant scientific tests to contain the correct quantities of Sofosbuvir and Ledipasvir (and nothing that shouldn’t be there!).

I would phone their main office (all their offices’ contact details are available on their website), and get their Sales to confirm the price and verify the agent who offered you the product at that price.

Hi Sonix, I am in the UK not Australia. I agree it can be helpful to see a poster’s country of origin in their signature but it can also be recorded in the profile.

Enkel, blood tests on the NHS (National Health Service – the UK public-funded health service) are free. Privately purchased blood tests in the UK can vary in price, but probably about £200 for HCV viral load qualitative; £150 for HCV viral load quantitative; and £80 for FBC and liver function test. So if you intended to have 3 sets of bloods, one at 4/52, one at EOT and finally one at SVR12, NHS monitoring could save you as much as £600 – £700.

Thanks, LG, for pointing out the significance of the cost and budgetary aspect. I think you may be right that this was a factor in my GP thinking it would be more appropriate for the hospital hepatology dept, rather than his GP practice, to do my VL monitoring. However, I’m grateful to my GP for interceding on my behalf with my hospital consultant: this may have been influential in securing my VL monitoring.

Perhaps the most significant thing to emerge from this thread is that of the 5 UK-based people who have broached the issue of generic-monitoring with NHS doctors – whether by GPs or consultants – all but Alsdad – perhaps because he was the first – have managed to get it. So maybe things are not now quite so grim for generic-using patients in the UK as is sometimes thought.

To be fair, my local hepatology clinic were obstructive (and continue to be), but my GPs have been as helpful as they could reasonably be, doing everything except the vl tests with blood work and helping facilitate a fibroscan.

My VL was done in Trafford, my local hospital. As they don’t have Hepatoligist there I go to MRI hospital.
Similar to LG, I didn’t have AST result, just ALT.
It is very strange how they work. I guess it depends on GP practice budget as well.

Ah! Thought Dr Prince and his not-so-merry gang at Mcr Royal had had a change of heart :( .

General blood work is normally done at the GP’s local hospital lab, but the vl tests are normally done at/through the nearest hepatology clinic.

My GP’s request for vl tests was turned down, but Dan’s (who attends the same hepatology clinic as me) GP’s request was accepted.

Maybe Dan can confirm where his vl tests were done?
