    Are you bipolar? dt

If my fibroscan is not so bad, it means the last 13 years i have been doing things OK
In which case i will enjoy a social drink in moderation (after tx finishes)
If my scan shows cirrhosis, then I would most likely never really drink again

I’ve always lived my life my way and happy to say that i have
I take all advice on board and make my own decision and have always worn any consequences
Everyone has a different experience to hep c and life in general
So no, I’m not bipolar, but given my upbringing I may well be insane

Anyway, as i say, thanks for any advice and concern – it is appreciated
I love this forum and love this initiative – I like a debate/ discussion with different ideas
But probably mot much else to say that hasn’t already been said really
Except that my meds arrived yesterday :woohoo:

You’ll know before that. Death is not the problem actually. Trust me. It’s what happens to your body on the way there. I won’t list the symptoms of advanced liver disease because I think you are afraid enough already to be in denial about your hepc. You can look them up for yourself. I sincerely hope that you spare yourself that journey, stop drinking, do the tx and thank your lucky stars that now we have the meds to let us escape this nightmare disease. dt

When I say I have to deal with the next 6 months
I mean it’s the 6 months I will be on tx and not drinking I have to deal with
We’ll see what my fibroscan shows in January and then I’ll assess life after tx

I have curbed my drinking significanly and now consider myself an infrequent social drinker – but I still love a drink
But I haven’t really given much thought to my hep in 13 yeaars and feel that is why it doesn’t bother me much

Having said that, I feel that my life is going to change after tx and I think I am slowly coming to terms with that
What that life will look like I’m not sure, but I have no kids or family as such and I’m not too afraid of death
Maybe I’ll change my tune if it is staring me in the face. I’ll know when it happens I guess

Thanks for the comments – I hear you
One things for sure – some intersting times ahead

PS. I’m having a fruit juice at the moment :)

I’d call that a win for sure
And while they monitor you, being in a category with a very high success rate, they will see how well the generics work
They will then be forced, just out of common sense and humanity, to support anyone else in the same position
So it’s a win for all :cheer:

    You’re welcome, Zhuk
it’s $90 or so, but it’s cheap peace of mind just to speak to the doc about any concerns

As far as clinics go, I think it’s the luck of the draw
For example, a friend of our is a social worker at the HIV, Viral Hepatitis & Sexual Health clinic on the mid North Coast
Apparently on Greg J’s blog it was mentioned that some nurses there were very helpful
She wondered who they were because most of the ones she dealt with were completely unhelpful and rude at the mention of generics
(this may have changed a little since a memo went around supporting the support of people on generics)

My wife worked in the health system and morale is generally low
People get stuck there and become jaded or think they know everything and patients are stupid
You just have to try and get them to help where you can
But generally I’ve found – if you pay you have options and better advice
If it’s free you are told what to do and it may not make sense

Anyway, good luck matey – you’re on the right path

I’m 51 and have hep for around 30 years
12 years ago my liver biopsy showed 3/4, a very bad result
    3 years ago I had a VL of 5 million +
My AST ALT have dropped to 116 and 184 respectively
Unfortunately my Protein and Globulin have increased to 89 and 44 – not sure what that really means, but it’s not a good sign

Funny thing is, if anyone were to ask me if i feel any symptoms, i would say ‘not really’
After reading everyone else’s symptoms i’m wondering if it’s my age or if I’ve had it so long any symptoms are normal

The only symptom i can say is definitely hep related was the over the top hangovers which is how i discovered it
i don’t think I get overly tired, but I work from home, so that’s a bonus
I can ache, but only after a lot of exercise – I just went away with a friend and did an 11.5 hour killer hike and we both suffered equally – during and after
And we were able to continue drinking the next night as usual (yes – I am stupid in that respect, but hey..I am who I am)
I ride a mountain bike and can take some good hits, but don’t seem to bruise excessively and recover normally
If sex drive is feeling horny, then any decrease in that i would see as a bonus lol
All in all, I don’t feel much different to any other 51 year olds, except maybe better
I’m hoping after tx starts I’ll feel like someone put a rocket under me

I’ve kept my hep in the back of my mind for 13 years now and only since coming on here it has forced it’s way to the front
I became quite worried initially as it seems most symptoms seem to start late 50’s early 60’s
Good thing about all this is that i can see a change of life style coming – especially after my fibroscan in January
The biggest negative for me is that riding bikes goes with drinking beer, so for the next 6 months at least i need to deal with that

I’ve since made peace with the likelihood that I will not be living a long life – it’s just another shithouse family legacy
As hep c tx is advancing I hope options for dying will advance by the time i get really sick
And rather than hanging around as a miserable burden i can choose a quick exit if liver cancer or failure eventuates

Anyhoo, as you say, onward and upward and I sincerely hope that everybody here gets cured and can move on with a more normal life
The opportunity to be cured on our terms is beyond belief really. When I first read the article, i put it into the too good to be true category but had to check it out anyway
The good doctor, the buyers club and everyone here are incredible and anyone who disagrees needs to do some research and get educated and get real :woohoo:

    Hey mate
i think it’s a bit of a personal thing really
For me, the beauty about all this that I am the master of my own destiny up to a point
I’m just going to pop 1 pill of each a day or as prescribed on the pack if there is one (they should arrive within a week)
i will be getting a blood test at weeks 4, 12, 24 + 12 weeks or so after tx has finished
I am having a fibroscan on January 11 and an appointment at the liver clinic in about a month

I am prepared to be given no support during tx, so any support i receive will be a bonus
One of the worst things about my previous tx was being owned by the Department of Health for the duration of tx
If this time they choose to ingnore generics, then that’s their problem of ignorance and at least i won’t have to make the 45 min drive
Once tx is finished i will be seeing a naturopath with a medical degree to give myself the best chance at rejuvenation

Alternatively, you could go to GP2U and get an appointment with Dr Freeman to discuss any concerns
It costs, but you get advice without the ignorance and any scripts/ testing you need

It is indeed a no brainer

I pay for my own treatment saving the government $85 000
Big pharma aren’t holding heppers and the government to ransom
    That’s what i call a win/ win

Unless of course the government wants to pander to Gilead and their shareholders
In which case they prove they have no brain

The roller coaster seems to be part of it, Joan, certainly for me
i found it a lot easier when I ignored it, but that will only work for so long

Now i stress about how damaged my liver is and pore over previous and current blood results
Sometimes I feel all good and ready for anything, but then I’m close to tears knowing that I’m a good candidate for cancer if the treatment doesn’t work

it’s a bit of a long road, but the end is in sight for you
be thankful you didn’t go ahead with the interferon
You didn’t miss out on anything there other than misery
All indications are that the side effects of these meds are very very mild in comparison or i wouldn’t be doing it (or waiting like you )

    Hi All
I may be kind of in the same boat
I’m not up with the ‘lingo’ as I’ve pretty much ignored my hep for more than 10 years
i did the Interferon/ Ribavarin 12 years ago.
At the time i had a ‘difficult to cure strain’ (we assume is G1)
And significant liver damage (biopsy) – at the time it was a 3 and cirrhosis was 4
i feel a bit sick when i think of the damage done in the ensuing 12 years – i have only myself to blame of course

3 years ago my VL was 5 million+ (updated results coming)
My exact genotype results will be confirmed within a month as well
But a fibroscan is not booked until late January

I’ve just bought my first 12 weeks of sof/ dac and should be here soon
To avoid disappointment, I’m going to order another 12 weeks soon as I don’t want to leave anything to chance
I’m wondering if I should order some Ribavarin as well, just in case
Reason being, if, say, at 12 weeks I still show some viral load, I would prefer to hit it with everything i can
Having used it before, I’m wondering if it will do anything – but I’d even be happy with an increase of 2% chance of cure

I’m actually very worried about the state of my liver
I thought you would have symptoms if cirrhotic, but this seems incorrect
So I think it best to assume the worst and hit it with everything I can
