One year ago I was hospitalized in Northern Thailand for food poisoning and serious dehydration. In the middle of the night I was barely coherent when a blood tech was at my side taking blood. I asked her what she was testing for and she handed me a menu of sorts. I said test for everything and upon leaving the next day I was handed 5 or 6 pages of blood results and a 15,000 THB bill ($500 USD) That was it and the doctor that discharged me did not mention anything about the blood work so I assumed all was well. 5 months later by chance I gave the blood work to my daughter a 3rd year med student and she got back to me the next day saying Dad there is a problem. From there I found Greg J and Doc Freeman. Was not able to get meds through Thai customs from Redemtion program so Greg J put me in touch with an Indian contact in Bangkok. I met Mr Giten at a Starbucks on Sukhumvitt Road Bangkok and bought my meds over a cup of coffee for 42,000 THB. Six weeks ago I finished my meds Sof/Led and tested UND with all liver functions back to normal. I started a thread awhile back about telling my 91 y/o mom that I had Hep C. My mom passed away peacefully a few weeks ago but not before knowing her son was cured. What a year it has been. Love and peace to all you brave soldiers.

Start June 7, 20165 September 2016 at 12:07 pm in reply to: Spreading the news about HCV generic medication-place for ideas #22802Sorry Have not been active on this forum for awhile but have been active in telling my story to all that will listen via Facebook, in person, at needle exchange places in Boston and several other communities. Also participated in the redemption data collecting and also in a generic med study that was referred to me by Greg J. Sometimes I have been a bit disheartened that my story about generics and the buyers club does not seem to rev people up, but I know I made a difference in at least two peoples lives that were/are infected and had no idea about the generics that are available. My goal was to reach at least one person.
A bit of news from the lab in Bangkok this morning since my first blood test post treatment on August 29th 2016
HCV RNA (quantitative) result HCV RNA not detected.
Physically I feel like the clock has been turned back five years to when I last felt normal. Am off on a motorcycle trip through Burma in early December, yes things are back to normal.
Have never met any of you folks on this forum in person but I can unequivocally say that I have the utmost respect for all of you. Your grit, determination, courage and humour in the face of this horrible virus and the horrible people that profit from it will prevail.
Cheers

Fitz pretty much nailed it on recommendations. As Usual,,,,
I would only add one thing, maybe get one of those 7 day pill dispensers. It only happened to me once, but I could not remember if I took my pill one night last week so I had to count pills back to June 7th to confirm. That was a few days after an 11 hour time zone change where my pill schedule went from first thing in the AM with coffee to 8PM at night. Did not want to mess with the pill clock so I have a 24 hour timer that reminds me at night and also the 7 day pill dispenser as a backup. That’s probably unique to my situation but for’.88 cents it was a good investment.
Also listen to your own body, you know yourself better than anyone, would not force anything down that you do not feel like taking.

Start June 7, 2016Hi Simone
No fear of scam here.
My appt with Monkmed was very professional, had all my supporting documents and the meds were shipped soon after.
My meds were not allowed through Thai customs. This was a very rare occurrence that has happened only a few times out of over 100 countries where the meds have been shipped and successfully received so far.
I was completely refunded for the meds and Monkmed appointment a few days later. I am a bit ashamed but with exchange rates with my US based credit card I actually profited by $16 USD.

Here are a few ideas in the pipeline that have been discussed in other threads.
1. Contact newspaper columnists that write on health issues in your area offering them details on generics and real people that are taking them and getting cured. I have contacted several from the Boston Globe briefly outlining my story with Hep C and generics, along with medical evidence (my blood work) showing amazing results with LFT”s normalizing and huge viral load drop post four weeks after generics tx. No response yet but it’s only been 2 days.
2. I am having a few of Doc Freeman’s published work on generics printed out and will offer them as reading material at public health centers where folks without insurance go to get help. (With permission of local staff)
3. Same as number 2, only the audience would be AA and NA meetings. Place info near the coffee and donuts that are offered at most meetings. (With permission) And also include your hep c story as part of your addiction story if and when you speak at these meetings. Not applicable to all, but for addicts as myself AA/NA meetings are incredibly supporting environments to share at.
Cheers

I have read a few articles by this columnist since I have been back and she is on the health beat. I’m not sure if I am using the right lingo labeling her as progressive but she seems to write some thought provoking stuff. if by some chance she gets back to me and is interested then it would have to come down to a face to face meeting. Maybe I am being naive but I trust my gut and intuition when I can look into someone’s eyes and touch them as in a handshake to get a feel of what they are about.
