Hi Stew, I have stomach ulcers which have flared up considerably since commencing treatment, it was manageable after upping my dose of nexium ..then I added in ribavirin and ulcer discomfort became severe, the stomach ulcers just didn’t like that stuff at all, I stopped the ribavirin but it’s been a struggle getting my ulcers to a pre ribavirin manageable level, I’ve had to readjust my diet so the foods I’m eating are all low acidic, I had to trundle out a fold up bed and have set it up at a 45 degree angle so the Acid doesn’t rise too much when I sleep, anyways I’m on sof/dac but your on harvoni, I know that ledipasvir needs stomach acid, so you should at least be taking the Meds when your nexium dose is at its weakest?, anyways maybe Dr Freeman can advise when exactly you should stagger the DAA’s and the nexium. no riba for about 3 weeks. its not diet, meat eater. I had bristol myer squibb daclatasvir for 3 months, then bought in sydney after a couple of weeks I starting getting really tired again like with hep so I had thyroid and a blood test which showed b12 and folic acid deficiency, the only thing that changed was the source of declatasvir. Also I am not happy with the shoddy certificate of analysis that came with the meds.

Ribavirin will stay in your system longer than 3 weeks I’m sure I was told, I think you’ll find people taking that crap will show the same deficiency pattern, was your hemaglobin and red blood cells down aswell?

Hi Berrinice, My latest blood tests showed a b12 and folate deficiency aswell, it only turned up after starting ribavirin along with a couple of other unpleasant side effects, I’ve stopped the ribavirin, 24 weeks of Sof/Dac seems to work better without it in gen 3’s anyway, but the ribavirin side effects continue to linger. And will take some time to leave my system. Ribavirin causes anemia which is also a factor in b12 and folate deficiency (according to what I’ve read) Are you taking ribavirin?

Thats it finished with the Riba, no rescuing it this time.

I think I’m gonna bin mine aswell, I’ve only been on it a week and my energy levels have dropped way off, had a liver function test today ALT/AST are in the normal range but my bilirubin has jumped noticeably from 16 to 25, from what I’ve read it may be anemia that’s causing it, I’ve been out in the sunlight a bit too much the last week, that may be a contributing factor, my last blood test I was below normal for red blood cell count. I’ve also noticed increased upper right quadrant abdominal discomfort.

I don’t want to cause more problems by taking the ribavirin but I also want the best chance of a successful Tx, I wonder, would upping Sof/Dac Tx to 30 weeks Instead give me a higher chance of gaining a 24 wk SVR than a 24 week Tx?

Welcome to the 3’s club GAJ, I’m hoping you’ll get a quick UND, of course in itself that won’t mean much, it’s the 12/24 week post treatment SVR that’s the goal, but an early UND will give you confidence that the Sof/Dac treatment is working well and goes a long way to easing anxiety.

What a great result after such a short period of treatment, are you part of the RVR trials?

Thanks GAJ, no I’m not part of the trials, I was gonna wait till the 4 week mark for the V/L test but I needed to get some tests done anyway and Dr J included it for me.
