    @gaj

Thanks everyone! It feels a bit strange not having any pills to take this morning but I guess I’ll get use to it. :+1:

Just been relaxing in this glorious autumn weather as Ariel pointed out. A long sunset walk on the beach yesterday which I wouldn’t have had the Inclination or energy for 6 months ago. :cheer:

But off to see a friend’s son’s band release their new single tonight. Personally I would have been mortified if my parents tried to attend something like that but they seem relaxed about it……or maybe they are just resigned to the fact we’ll sneak in anyway!

    Hi Fiona,

Sorry to hear that the commencement of treatment has not been smooth sailing. During the first week or two of Sof/Dac I had a mild tension headache and a small amount of extra nasal discharge. Also felt a bit dry eyed and vague at times but all these were very minor and I generally felt uplifted if anything. Most people seem to be similar so if you have strong flu type symptoms then that is likely cause so maybe check with doc if bad.

I had my levels tested prior to supplementing and found I was at the low end of acceptable range so discussed with GP and followed his advice. Shots may be suitable if you test as seriously deficient. Otherwise you can get sublingual (under the tongue) sprays or pills that are absorbed quickly into your bloodstream for an initial boost if needed and follow up with either better diet or oral pills longer term.

    Hi Banoru,

Medicard or DVA are Australian medical ID cards. I guess your UK equivalent is probably your NHS number(?) so use that or just skip that field if it allows you.

Any medical records you can provide to gp2u regarding your HCV will help, so Fibrosis, Genotype, Liver function and other blood tests and a letter or other document from your Doctor will all help.

‘Course you are……bring that big fiddle of yours, stay up wind of the smoke and we can work through the Jerry Garcia/David Grisman song book. Seeing we’re healing our livers enough to be ‘Old and in the Way’ we may as well do it with some good tunes.

Then taking a Final year applied theory and composition class for a double.

Hey, not a problem! Just set them this:

“Discuss the Grateful Dead’s reference to ‘graceful instruments’ in New Potato Caboose in the context of Handel’s Theodora and then create a short bridge transitioning from the 11/07/’67 Soldiers Field, Chicago version of the first into a Catalonian folk Cobla rendition of the latter using the flabiol (tabor pipe), tambori, tenora and tible.”

    :P  <img style=illy:' /> B)

(…….with thanks for the inspiration to the Music Dept., University of California, Santa Cruz who apparently do employ ‘behind the shelter shed’ types.)

    Hi beaches,

We can only measure the ones in our blood, we can’t directly measure the ones in the liver which take longer for the medications to reach and kill. So we kill the ones in the blood that we can measure and then keep going for long enough to make sure all the others are killed too.

As sonix says. The virus that are in your liver and other parts of your body are a bit harder to get the medications to. This is more so with fibrosis or cirrhosis. Think of the scars of cirrhosis as little walled off forts that the virus can hide in, it takes longer to get the medication past those barricades. As we don’t know exactly when this happens we rely on the original trials that told us that we needed to treat for x number of weeks in different situations to be reasonably sure of getting all the virus.

    Hi Valerie,

The Ledipasvir in Harvoni needs stomach acids to be effectively absorbed. Magnesium, which is also found in many antacids, acts to reduce stomach acidity. So if you are on Harvoni (Sofosbuvir/Ledipasvir) then it is advisable to avoid taking antacids or magnesium supplements at least around the same time as your medication. I can’t advise whether taking them at different times of day would make a difference.

The above may be a reason why your viral load has not decreased as much as expected at 4 weeks but I’m not a doctor so you need to discuss this with one who can provide expert advice.
