“I’ve been running variously themed diatribes in my mind for hours now, but it won’t help the immediate situation”
Love it. Very economic. It quietens my mind.
The thing about being flexible and out manouvering the regulations is it is distracting, and demanding, and they can change, and there may be other strict liability ones we are not yet aware of, probably up someone’s sleeve. Definitely more complainants, exactly as you outline, and I think the disgruntled specialists you mention are the most dangerous.
Because it is not just internet law that is at stake, it is medical license, risk etc, that boxing clever might not be enough to protect. Complete retrenchment is a good look for a while at least.
There should be noise but it should, now, be guarding not exposing James further.

Matt-Kenney: I know the argument, “just doin’ my job.”

I know Matt, and I couldn’t any longer stomach being a mouth piece for ridiculous policies and incompetent decision makers, so I quit, and have gone to law school at my advanced age to really get to grips with the rules we are all up against. And models like fixhepc are what I will defend or there is no point. But I am lucky, my partner works so I could, just, make that decision.
But remember- it was an honest bureaucrat in the Indian Patent Office who was just doing his job, within his rules, that enabled these generics to get to us too. Public servants as defenders of the workers used to be the main heroes in Bollywood blockbusters, until the 1990’s and globalisation. Now, Bollywood heroes are mega rich businessmen/playboy consumers.
All our governments reflect that and our species needs to evolve to a better version- to something like James Freeman, for example.

All good points. It is outrageous that there is legal ‘protection’ of the public against fixhepc allegedly marketing generics and no legal protection against Gilead marketing. But there is. Having been sort of a bureaucrat, I have some sympathy for them- they can’t choose to not respond to complaints, they can’t ignore the law they are paid to keep an eye on. Strict liability means there is no available defence- if the facts fall into the scenario, bang, you don’t get to have a reason.
The people we need to be maddest at are the complainants, and Gilead, if that is two different things, and ‘trade’ deal negotiators and their political representatives.

Regarding the comments sections on newspaper articles, I have had 2 hits from that in past week- excited emails from people, 1 in Phil and one in Canada, maybe they are seeing this post? Having my own name, being findable might help that but also, I just put in the words fixhepc not the link as people have ad blockers, and comments section moderators might remove links or see them as marketing. Easy enough for people to search the words.

“I used to think the top environmental problems were biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse and climate change.
I thought that with 30 years of good science we could address those.
    But I was wrong.
The top environmental problems are selfishness, greed and apathy…
…and to address those, we need a spiritual and cultural transformation
-and we scientists don’t know how to do that”

I am a real person, who the meds really got to in time, and I have been telling people that is is real, it works, publicly for a few months.

It doesn’t involve commission- it is prompted by civic duty. That’s what is behind the support and advice of everyone here. That’s what is behind these suspiciously positive posts- ;) we are not used to it. It is quite moving. Many of us had no help from our own doctor but one who had never met us cared enough in the abstract to find a safe way. The Indian system was honestly applied to allow us access, People like Greg Jefferys shouted about it wherever possible. All of us were reached by a process that has been transformative, and fair. We are not playing it up. Sustainable businesses as the backbone of all of that, providing free resources to all, everywhere, like MonkMed and GP2U, is a good thing.

Me too please! Just Hazel will do, lose the middle name- it was an accident, at the time I didn’t realise it shows up as that- and I didn’t know I would be using it again.

Note I commented on a Canadian story yesterday that was posted on FB and have already been contacted by someone who saw it and was big news for them. Really seems worth doing
