    @keith

    hi 40-odd
That’s bad luck I know how you feel I’m also NHS 8 week harvoni relapse I wasted a year working out what I was gonna do next and finally started retreatment early this year via fixHepc and Dr James.
I’ve got my EOT 12 week blood test coming up next week so I’ve got my fingers crossed
As Mnem says you need your test results, they cannot refuse you,
The nurses in at my hospital were most helpful and have been all the way through
Next thing is you need to get them to agree to test and monitor you throughout treatment
it might be the consultant has to make that decision but it’s the nurses who present your case so I can’t stress enough how important it is to get the nurses on side, make yourself known to them. Make sure they know that you’re going to self fund your treatment with generics whether they support you or not it’s hard to see how they can refuse to monitor you
my nurses agreed that they would email me all subsequent blood test results
my bloods are taken on a Wednesday morning and I have the full results by Friday evening I think it’s very poor that they made you wait so long on something that so important. I would definitely be chasing up those outstanding results as there’s always an outside chance that it was a duff test or the results were mixed up especially if they’ve been hanging around the 2 months
Good luck I hope to hear soon that you’ve started.

    Hi Top 14u and welcome
my story is pretty much the same as yours 8 weeks harvoni in 2016 and relapsed at end of treatment +4 weeks I think they shortchanged us there
I wasted a lot of time waiting for retreatment from the NHS but of course it didn’t come
I started re treatment with generics via this site earlier in the year and I’m now 8 weeks post treatment . the blood test at 4 weeks post showed I was undetected I know 4 weeks doesn’t mean much but it’s further than I got last time
    so these generics do work.
My hospital has been more than helpful in testing and monitoring once I got them onside and they carried out a test for RAVs before I started . Ask Dr James if this is necessary in your case, and you can speak to him on the phone if you can’t do Skype
    What genotype are you?
Feel free to send me a private message if you think I can help
I’m not an expert in anything but I can tell you how things worked for me

    Hi Sandcountry and welcome
your not the only one who struggles with forum and chat room protocol but I don’t think it matters much on here
congratulations on starting treatment sounds like you had a hell of a lot to deal with in the last few years I’m sure you’re now making a step in the right direction.
With regard to Tinnitus the scale I use is just my own way of measuring the noise level out of 10. The increase came on so suddenly and corresponded to the kick in of Riba l wondered if there was a connection, Did you notice any changes In volume during your previous treatments with Riba?
from what little I know about the condition there never used to be any cure or treatment
I did read recently that you can now get noise cancelling hearing aids that work like in-flight head sets but that sounds a bit extreme
there is also a forum I’ve been looking at that gives a lot of information that I’ve yet to try and understand If I find out anything interesting I’ll let you know
    Best of luck with treatment

    Hi good luck
I went through the same thing with a recent import to the UK in fact mine went back to Egypt twice. The problem was the import duty that had not been paid.
Is it DHL and are you tracking it ?
Somewhere on their site there is an area for paying duty, I would be inclined to give them a ring and talk to a human I found them to be extremely helpful. Hope this is some help to you

    Hi Goodluck
I don’t know anything about MG but I can tell you that after a possible 50 year infection with 1a, I took Harvoni for 8 weeks with absolutely no side effects whatsoever and I went undetected after 4 weeks of treatment.
however 4 weeks after my end of treatment I was detected again and had relapsed. The consensus of opinion now is that had I taken 12 weeks it would have worked
I believe that any side-effects you might get now, if you get any at all, will not be as bad as the stress and crap you have to go through to treat a 2nd time round and don’t forget you will still have the side-effects and probably for longer so do everything you can to get it right 1st time round
I strongly recommend you talk to Dr James he will put you on the right track

    Hi coral
Am I right in thinking you got your Viekira from Egypt ,was it called Qurevo
after discussion with Dr James over the last few days he decided I’d be better off on Egyptian Viekira 12 week course at $3600 and I feel a lot better about 12 weeks than the 24 I thought it was going to be
how did you go about it, did you need an Egyptian prescription and is there anybody you can deal with that makes everything happen for example MonkMed has Tim as a central point of contact he supplies forms and explains the process etc.
I hope everything is all right you
    regards Keith

    Hi 2b
thanks for your message. I feel I shouldn’t be too hard on the NHS as they are helping me and in fairness it’s all as new to them as it is to us so they don’t have protocols in place to deal this
The. 1st consultant I saw was somebody’s cancelled appointment and at couple of hour’s notice so he didn’t know what I was going to ask and was probably not prepared I expect I was the 1st one to ask but hopefully not the last
he was sympathetic but couldn’t do it on the grounds of the cost of nurse services and blood tests I didn’t argue the point at that time.
I then went to my GP who said it was a no-no but she did write to the hospital I think we stirred it up enough between us to get them thinking resulting in a change of attitudes.
I stalled at this point because I just didn’t know how to go about testing with private labs perhaps if we ever get a thread going for friendly hospitals and GPs perhaps it could include private labs that undertake testing their charges and maybe people’s comments I saw one post where they said the results took weeks to come back
I have to say that all the nurses I’ve seen both 1st treatment and now have been excellent, they are kind, supportive and genuinely caring
I now have all test results email to me as a hard copy of the report.
So take care and keep on ranting

    Hi Cronholm
I took harvoni for 8 weeks no side effects whatsoever and as the instructions said with or without food I took it in the morning with a couple of coffees from posts I’ve read on here everybody is different as regards side-effects
I think if instructions say with or without food it is up to you to find out what suits you best good luck with treatment

Hi Susie yes I finally got there thanks for getting me started and yes Riba is via NHS I got 12 weeks supply so at the moment that’s what I’ll do I don’t know what the thinking is on taking Riba one nurse said take it for a couple of weeks and also heard just take it at the end so I’ve got 12 weeks to think about it and it’s not causing any real problems at the moment
I don’t know if you remember but I thought originally the hospital was on board but when I saw one of the doctors it was a no no then recently at one of their area liver meetings it was decided that it wasn’t such a bad thing to support people with testing and monitoring who were self funding their own medication.
I’m not sure if the decisions lie with the heads of department of each hospital or it’s an area decision anyhow they should be ashamed of not offering support considering how many hundred grand we are saving them
I want to find out more about how these decisions are structured and then maybe start a thread listing which hospitals/areas are willing to support us it may be helpful for people wanting to start treatment . Then there’s doctors GPs willing to support but they may not want their names out in the public domain . Perhaps there’s a way of doing it with emails privately.
    Cheers best of luck

My big problem is I’m trying to diet I really need to lose 30 -40 lb from around my middle for various reasons
what I do is count every calorie and weigh everything don’t laugh I know it’s sad but this is serious for me and this is the only way I can do it
the forum is full of precise numbers, viral counts, LFT results etc what I want to know is just another number
how many grams of fat, carbs whatever else should I take with my Riba assuming saturates unsaturates and polyunsaturated’s can all be added together if I know that value can regulate my intake to suit my diet and the Riba
I understand 1g of fat I understand 10 g of fat but to say ‘some’ fat means nothing I need a number
I’ve consulted Dr Google and some other forums one of which was saying 50 g of fat!!! Surely not
hope someone can point me in the right direction

    One year ago
I was feeling good getting on with stuff that had piled up and I just finished my NHS harvoni a couple of weeks previously and I was having a few glasses after nearly a year on the wagon
I was unquantifiable after 2 weeks and undetected all the way through, I was just waiting for my 4 weeks post results. I was cured I knew I was. Now I’m not Stan Lee’s lucky man and I don’t have an unrealistic positive attitude but this treatment had just fallen into place and I knew it had worked
I wasn’t prepared for the results when they came in and I fell off the cliff it was worse than when I was 1st diagnosed
just by chance flicking through the news channels one morning France 24 was doing a clip about buyers club and Greggs trip to India
I hit the website and found there was a London Girl on here and I thought wow there is even someone in England doing it, so many questions in those days. We got in touch and she helped me through the 1st stages of contact with monk med, Dr D Debasis etc.so I signed up for redemption.(Thanks for all your help L G and congrats on your SVR)
while trying to get baseline blood tests from my local hospital I was persuaded to hold off on treatment, now I’m sure the advice was well meant and there may be reasons for not retreating immediately there was all so an element of suspicion of generics and FHC
it was the worst decision I’ve ever made I’ve wasted 12 months and I’m still back to square one
I finally got a resistance analysis carried out I’ve got no NS5a or MS5b resistance that’s good. I’ve picked up where I left off with monk med and receive my meds last week . I just started a 24 week run and I’m not looking forward to it, I’m not happy about it and I don’t feel positive about it in fact I’m pretty pissed off in general
during the last year of waiting my fibrosis has gone from F1 F2 6.8 kpa to F2 F3 8.9 kpa
if there is anybody out there waiting for treatment, thinking about treatment, been promised treatment, stop sitting on the fence and get on with it or you may live to regret it as I do
