Hi Mic,
It is true that some patients could can clear within 8 weeks, but I for one was not one of those and I and so glad I treated through MonkMed /FixHepC . If under the NHS advise, I would have definitely relapsed quite early on in the game.
The recommended treatment is 12 weeks for treatment naive, The NHS 8 week recommendation is based on cost-cutting, nothing else.
I’m sure Dr Freeman (Fix HepC ) or Dr Debasis (MonkMed) would advise you the same.
My feeling is those who have carried the virus many years in particular, should do the full 12 weeks, I ended up needing 24 weeks of medicine, although I was one of a very small % who went in the slow lane .
I highly recommend also doing a 2nd/3rd viral load test at 8 weeks if the NHS only offer one at 2 and/or 4 weeks into treatment. Even if you ask your GP for it or pay privately (MediChecks a reasonable price to others).
Advise don’t do what the NHS suggest without seeking a 2nd opinion by the Drs mentioned above who are not restricted by bureaucracy and cost-cuttiing budgets at patients’ expense.
