Hello Nitro and everyone,
I’m so pleased for you, and sorry that the system let you down so badly. Just one small note of caution: I can quite see why you cancelled your health insurance but although your health is almost certainly going to improve a great deal, do you think it may be a good idea to take out a policy with another company just in case?
Meanwhile you could have the pleasure of writing to the bastards who let you down so badly, letting them know what you think of their behaviour, that they’ve lost your business, and also that you’ve made a start on publicly trashing them. Do tell us who they are because some of us may want to join you in telling them what we think of the way they do business.
It’s always a good idea, when you have (an) important point(s) to make, to do it in the form of a letter rather than an email. That’s because it is much harder to ignore whereas an email can just be deleted. You could address it to the chairman or chief executive and copy it to all the heads of departments in the company (you can get their names in a few minutes from Dr Google) with an extra note to ask them how they can bear to work for a company which treats people so badly.
You could ask them how they square their consciences with what it says in the bible about loving thy neighbour as thyself and go on to ask them whether they think Jesus would have approved of their company’s policy. This may bother them as most Americans say they are Christians and claim to take the contents of the New Testament seriously.
You never know your luck, it could be worth a try and would be a bit of fun anyway!
President Kennedy said that “the only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing” and that’s more or less right but he should have included women and those of us who are something in between!
All the best,
RSF

Hi there 40,
That really is unfair! It isn’t a complete surprise because 8 weeks of Harvoni is hardly regarded as the gold standard treatment.
Well done for finding this forum because all the information you need can be accessed this way. You could spend some time reading through the material or, if you’re ready, just make an appointment for an online consultation with a specialist GP – GP2U is what you will need. If you have or can get hold of $1500 to $1600 (£1113 – £1187), that will take care of a 3 month course of treatment. You may decide, in consultation with the doctor, that it would be better to treat for a longer period and in that case the cost would be roughly proportionate.
It’s worth pointing out that the NHS will eventually sort you out. They are quicker these days but a lot depends on your health district – this is where the infamous postcode lottery comes into it. The decision you come to will involve your available time, your patience, your wallet , your symptoms and history and your views about healthcare. There will be other considerations depending on your particular circumstances.
It may be helpful to know more about your history and hepc status so why not add those details to your profile. What genotype of the virus has taken up residence in your liver, for example?
With all best wishes,
RSF

Hello again HCV2B,
You are obviously having a really hard time. I think that even if DHL take a month to process and release your meds, although they may not take that long, it is not likely to make much difference to the end result.
Liver damage progression associated with hepc is quite a slow process. You have every reason to feel frustrated, angry and worried because of DHL’s behaviour, which does seem pretty strange, but you will get through this.
All best wishes,
RSF

Hello HCV2B,
I didn’t have exactly that problem but did have something similar. There was a security alert in India and the powers that be ordered that planes carrying cargo be unloaded and that every package be checked. That took several days to get sorted out and then the UK customs checked everything again on arrival, took the paperwork which came with the meds – much of it confidential – and repacked them and they were then passed on to Fedex for delivery.
You can imagine how I felt. I never saw the paperwork again but did get the meds alright and what’s more THEY WORKED.
I suppose I pretty much know how you’re feeling but the odds are that your stuff will arrive okay. My advice is to ring every day and if nothing has happened after a week, then contact customs. Or you could just do that straight away.
All the very best,
RSF

Hello Lynn,
I’ve only just happened across your thread hence the late response to your original post. Your test results are great! ‘Just what the doctor ordered’. In case the meaning isn’t clear that’s a phrase used here in England to mean that something is brilliant – sorry for the awful pun.
All other things being equal, you’ll beat this nasty little bug and be able to get on with your life.
So sorry to hear about your family member. That is a horrible thing to have happened and very frightening for those who witnessed it – it must have left a scar, but it’s good to remember that his suffering is over now and stuff like that should be rarer from hereon in.
I get so cross when I hear stories like yours about insurers. Frankly the British National Health Service can be almost as bad. I do wonder what is wrong with these people and why doctors who would like to give patients the treatment they need but can’t because of budgetary constraints don’t just go on strike or quit.
I wouldn’t put up with that kind of nonsense in their shoes. I work in healthcare privately. I could have a contract with the NHS but for very obvious reasons want nothing to do with it. If patients cannot afford my fees then I just say “how much can you afford” and treat them for that. So easy – the other people I look after who can pay the full amount keep me pretty well paid.
All the best with your treatment. You should be home and dry in a few weeks.

That’s a very good point and certainly something I knew about. However I haven’t attempted to do anything about it as yet and am just doing what I can to let people know about Fixhepc.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for your support. It has taken me a while to work out what’s been going on – stupid or what? Wine doesn’t give me a hangover, it gives me a migraine. Why this has started, I have no idea, but I am prone to occasional migraines anyway. I had one the other day, having had no alcohol for several days and that’s when the penny dropped.
Having scoured the internet on the subject, I am going to try Guinness, which several people find alright. Wish me luck!
