That is great news yes GAJ – the excision of the old poisons, at least they will never be used again

ALT 26Hi CC2B, welcome to the forum
You’ve got some great numbers there so you’d be an excellent candidate for treatment, congrats on staying so healthy for so long. Check out this discussion on US importation for a bit more info: http://fixhepc.com/forum/buyers-club-nodes/305-us-importation-legal-or-not.html?limitstart=0

ALT 26I am absolutely celebrating for those who are seriously ill who will be the first cabs off the rank and get their meds asap (which will still be some time after March, but hey its happening now – which is great)
But realistically, it will take many years at the rate of $1bil spending/every 5 yrs to even make a dent in the numbers, since thousands more new infections are adding to that list every year. Many will not be prepared to get sicker and begin to have real problems before their turn comes up. I don’t see why the idea that these meds will have to be triaged *due to cost* is so hard to grasp..it is the only logical way they can be distributed with a meagre amount of fund available (relative to the overall projected amount)

ALT 26I think that headline is a plays-good-to-the-masses on behalf of the Health Minister, but cost will undoubtably triage supply – its just no “official” guidelines will state who can be treated and who can’t. Just get to the back of a very long queue if you aren’t very unwell.
And yeah em, I doubt we would have beaten Gilead down by more than 50% to any less than an amount comparable with France ($50K)

ALT 26Thanks for the clarification Joy.
So that’s 11.000-odd of the sickest patients over 5 years – great that they will get help so badly needed. However this is still a triage-due-to-cost and will be by no means available for all. And after that 5 years, another billion?

ALT 26If they’re talking about a billion/year, then it will take (thanks for the number-crunching Vororo!) just over 11 years for the currently infected population.
Although the article doesn’t mention a lump sum or yearly expenditure

ALT 26Good points there Sir. Its definitely heartening if you see results early, but that has to be tempered by the knowledge that nothing is certain (or as certain at it can be!) until SVR12. And yes some people are still showing detectable levels at EOT but go on to UND status down the track.
Just assures you its working to get good results straight off the bat, I’m sure I will feel the same when I finally get started.

ALT 26Very promising news, especially for those very unwell who need treatment asap…triaging will be mandatory. And it seems likely that thanks to the work of FixhepC and the doc it has been pushed into the spotlight where the Govt could no longer ignore it. Great stuff.
I’m with you Vovoro – what possible anti-generic deals may have been struck in order to deal with Gilead??

ALT 26Well done to Hep Aust.
I don’t doubt that the personal experiences/postings by Em and others from this forum have helped sway their formerly unequivocal stance. As you say Chester, the word about achievable cures should get out to a whole wider audience now. Great stuff!

ALT 26Great news, Coral!
You are right, there is a war happening within us during treatment, and such a massive drop in VL can only be a very promising sign. As the doc has pointed out, even if in the rare instance you are not undetected status by EOT its only a lag before killing off those last stubborn bastards lol
