Awesome news, Henry! Great to see those normal numbers, for the first time…all the best for your VL results.
You make a great point on the mental aspect – a life lived with a view to not making plans can only be one half-lived…clamping down on your normal expectations. The lack of hope.. Its a quantum leap to consider that we might have a healthy one stretching into the future, isn’t it? Amazing when you think about this mental straightjacket we’ve all been wearing.

ALT 26There would be no other GP in Australia with the sort of direct, real-world experience in working with DAA’s that Dr James has…and yep you are right, he cannot afford to wait at this stage of disease progression, to be fobbed off and told that the generics he needs are “not available”.
He needs help and he needs it asap.

ALT 26Apologies for jumping in here a bit belatedly isaing4…good to hear you are on the road to recovery now. If you/ve only been infected recently then the experience might well be a bit easier. And yep, the possibility of re-infection is definitely there if you’re not careful

ALT 26Too right Chester. I’m of fairly meagre financial means but paid $335 recently for a private hospital-conducted nerve conduction study (as waiting until May for the public waiting list didn’t seem clinically uh, wise), and got back $190 rebate. Obviously doesn’t work this way in the UK..but then things like optical & dental are publicly covered that aren’t here.

ALT 26Would if I could, Mike inch:
Nice comprehensive post, thumbsup!
A plus too that Lucinda Porter & the hepmag mods have a modicum of tolerance to the mention of generics/alternate sources, unlike their more batshit-crazy counterpart on delphi, EvilJoy heh
Even if they did block my registration

ALT 26Great points, GAJ.
I took along all the info I could find/download from here and other sources to my GP, but was prepared for them to decline to monitor (which is what happened), their citing lack of experience/confidence in overseeing tx. I guess from their POV, its an individual professional ‘risk’ some aren’t willing to take…I didn’t blame the doc for taking that stance.

ALT 26Thanks Joy, really appreciate your well wishes. Great to hear how much better your pain is after tx; as you say we get habituated to thinking this is life as “normal” – when in fact none of us knew what normal was at all heh.
Similarly, how much of our emotional/mental issues are hep-related and how much is endogenous…this is also going to be an interesting one to find out. I had a lot of depression-issues in my young life before contracting hep, but I can only think they would have been exacerbated afterwards.
