Here’s hoping, Chapel. For a necessarily short segment it was done pretty well (Sunrise researchers had done their homework!) with all bases covered. Dr James and Greg were great in putting a reasoned and credible face to the club’s endeavour.

    Hmmm

I made a donation but didn’t take note of the $ thermometer (damn!) but pretty sure I had ‘fixHepC’ nominated correctly, so here’s hoping. The confirmation of donation email doesn’t stipulate where the money was directed, specifically.

Great job number-crunching, Vororo. What was already obviously an obscenely small percentage of treated patients just becomes all the more stark under that spotlight.

What Gilead would no doubt call “untapped revenue potential”

Doc James said somewhere here that the monitoring can be absolutely minimal, there is a whole thread about it somewhere…if you find it.
My “monitoring” consisted so far with 1 pre tx base bloods taken & then the consultant have scheduled blood tests after week 4, 8 & EOT & then 12 week after finishing, I think.
I have not seen my consultant otherwise for months in person, but I do keep in touch via email if needed, this arrangement suits me fine.
Maybe try to suggest email contact to your consultant instead of appointments & also if he can order all your bloods for the next 3 months ? – there is really not that much need to see a consultant during the tx, except if bloods are really bad, which is most unlikely with those new meds.

Pretty much exactly what I was told at RPA today Jolie; pre-tx/4/8/EOT & post-tx 12wk testing. No need for any other “monitoring” as such unless specific issues arise. On an interesting side note, my specialist did say that they have had more than 80 patients come through the clinic on DAA treatment; most of them via the compassionate access program but some using self-sourced generics and none failed to respond, no matter their stage of illness at the outset.

    Lol I love it..what a freakin good idea :)

Revenge is also moving swiftly in the direction of Shkreli. Fifteen months ago, he paid $US55 million for Turing Pharmaceuticals AG, whose primary asset was Daraprim. Now the price he paid has become questionable.

On Tuesday night, one of the largest medical service providers in the United States, Express Scripts, announced it was offering an alternative drug to Daraprim for just $US1.

Express Scripts is offering a drug from Imprimis Pharmaceuticals with the same qualities as Daraprim. Patients will now have an alternative: $750 for a pill of Daraprim, or $1 for a capsule from Imprimis.

Express Scripts is a low-cost supplier which negotiates with medical insurance companies and drug makers to provide medicines directly to consumers at low cost.

It was able to short-circuit the Shkreli price rocket by forming a partnership with Imprimis, a compounding pharmacy. Whereas big drug companies develop new drugs which are then patent protected, compounding pharmacies buy compounds approved by the US Food and Drug Administration and then formulate them to compete with patented drugs.

    Compounders of the world, unite!

    Hear you on that, Chejai!

Also interesting how your GP got cold feet because of the “risk” of an unfamiliar product – today I saw the nurse & specialist at RPA for my pre-treatment check/bloods, and found out that because the meds have been TGA-approved, they are in the MIMS book already (just not on the PBS). This was in relation to the thyroid op which has to be done in the new year, and I will be on tx by then…so the hospital can look up the book to check for contraindications with antibiotics etc. I’m pretty sure they would be “unfamiliar” too but no one is freaking out about the prospect in the least.

All great points made here, Sue, and welcome. 17 days out of 84 (presuming you’re doing the 12 wk course) is only just getting started really, I wouldn’t have any concerns. Also remember that us GT1’s are the most least responsive genotype to treat, so we might respond a bit slower than others but there’s no reason to think the eventual outcome will be any less favourable. Alsdad makes an excellent point here “The good news is that level of side effects don’t seem to be an indicator for effectiveness of treatment”

Don’t expect anything specific to happen at a particular stage, just go with it and I’m sure you’ll have good results. All the best.

Exactly my thoughts too, Tina. All those still pushing the suggestion that DAA’s will be available universally for all when are approved are living in a fool’s paradise IMO. For those of us not “sick enough” yet, to wait and watch our livers slowly fail over time, just so we might eventually be eligible for treatment…I dunno, haven’t we all lost enough years of health already? Act if you can act, and now – before this lifeline is cut short.

And I love your angle, klhilde…damn straight generics are patriotic! lol
