ALT 26Hi Desley, sorry to hear you’re struggling at the moment
But 10hrs is a hell of a workload…and I think your light weight might have quite a bit to do with the sx too – in effect you are getting a considerably higher dosage than is usual per kg/bodyweight. I’m about 50kg and expecting more side effects than the average person when I start treatment…but I don’t have to get through the sort of physical strain you do. Your body is a mini warzone atm as your immune system is fighting to kill the hep – it wouldn’t surprise me that such exertion would make it tough. Be interested to hear what those on treatment think as well.

ALT 26Compare and contrast with Bristol-Myers Squibb and daclatasvir:
Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. has signed a broad agreement with Medicines Patent Pool, allowing the United Nations-backed organization to distribute licenses for generic- drug companies to copy its hepatitis C treatment in more than 100 developing and middle-income nations.
The agreement allows the generics makers to produce copies of the drug Daklinza, known chemically as daclatasvir, without paying any royalties, Medicines Patent Pool said in a statement Monday. The liver ailment is a new treatment area for the organization, which has helped developing nations gain access to HIV medicines.

ALT 26Great to hear you’re going so well Joan, with few sx and very positive that your sleep patterns seem to be normalising. Good stuff
Curious as to what mine will be, since I have fairly broken sleep anyway. Ironic that after so many years of having the virus and just putting it out of my mind, that I’m so impatient now lol

ALT 26Definitely what I found too Joan. When I first asked about the possibilty of generics RPA didn’t seem keen and were still adhering to the “wait until next year & the PBS”; but once I contacted them saying the meds were on their way – all good from there. I don’t doubt that they have no qualms whatsoever about the efficacy of the drugs, but for political purposes can’t be seen to be actively promoting them. The ball is in our court on that to take it into our own hands.
I’m also sure from a clinical perspective they would be interested to have us as “test cases” for the new meds, and will apply knowledge gained through the generic rebels for when the Govt does give the go-ahead. Provided the drugs haven’t been superceded by then lol

ALT 26For sure, Cindi…and especially as a youngster it must be difficult. I was 21 when I contracted the virus, but had other medical issues which pushed it way into the background – until I started noticing symptoms in more recent years. Great that J can get treated now and will be able to enjoy his adulthood free of its effects, both physical & mental.

ALT 26Yeah Paul I was thinking of that heh! Usually you are required to bring bottles/tabs complete in packaging but I’ll put it to the staff when I have the pre-op appointment. Good point on the photos too, will do. Cheers

ALT 26Hear you on that Browny.
It is very heartening for those of us waiting for the meds to roll in, and to be able to share in the success stories so many are contributing here…I’ve also gone from a slight apprehensiveness to positively looking forward to it too. Only query I have is I found out yesterday that I will have to have half my thyroid removed while on treatment, but as far as I know no antibiotics etc are contraindicated with sof/dac. Although I kinda feel like locking my expensive meds up in the hospital safe while I’m in there

ALT 26CJ wrote:His doc was unwilling to “advice” our friend to get the generics, but willing to monitor him, which is what we expected.( although seemed a little put out)
But our friend’s a bit scattered & didn’t understand, doesn’t want to offend his specialist, He’s rather him to RECOMMEND them, think he’s worried about that.
it’s taken a lot of explaining, but I think he finally understands.Hope things can get started soon.
But may be a while before his specialist gets back to him…. ( this would be typical).. so we’ll try to keep on top of it all for him.Tell your mate not to worry about it CJ – RPA said the same thing to me, they are fully supportive and happy to monitor, but can’t “officially” endorse/prescribe the meds…no doubt some directive has come down from on high. So, nothing to get stressed about.
This is his 2nd liver transplant, so it makes sense to stop the hep from destroying this one.
Although his doc is mainly worried about the Bile Ducts which are bad & he has to have stents put in every few months.
I guess it’s all a bit complicated, but..Still think a hep free liver would be a happier liver.
x
Couldn’t agree more. You are doing something wonderful for him, when our system sadly cannot.

ALT 26That is awesome news, Cindi, really pleased for J and for you…what a drop in VL!
Yep I don’t doubt at all that there might be low-grade depression that we assume is endogenous, but turns out to be the hep – great that he is feeling happier in himself now

ALT 26Hey the more converts, the better mate! (spouses included)
Fantastic that you are now in a position of wellness to be thinking of an aussie trip (just watch out for the drop bears lol)
Definitely hope your post stays put…and as for ‘advertising’ where no one associated with this forum and the club makes profit out of it, compared with posts singing Gilead’s praises…well I guess they have that prerogative if you get canned
But if a few people who feel desperate enough about their situations see it before then, and decide to check fixHepC out…then lives have potentially been saved. As per your Oscar Schindler allegory – save the ones you can.
