It could easily be anyone on this forum; reality check. I'm well aware of the risks of this forum. It's fantastic yes, but it also contains personal stories and I recall the times very lovely people have been hassled just for no reason by other members. So who complained? Well likely an Australian. But we don't really know who is behind the words and it could be anyone. It could be Gilead. It could be a Govt run Org. We don't know

Like I said earlier, the content of this site can be posted anywhere, and as GT elaborated there are ways around the geoblock. It's interesting to me, because in USA we get ads on prime time TV from the pharma companies. Harvoni is advertised almost daily!

I'll just say this, and let me preface this remark by saying I hope I am completely wrong, but I think once TPP goes through there is going to be a real shit storm over these generics.

I see my blog here has over 4000 views, I hope that maybe 200 people in USA were able to feel confident enough to get generics from that. So at a discounted rate of $50,000, that means Gilead lost out on $10 million in revenue. They are not going to stand pat and not try and do something, and multiply my efforts by 1000 from this site and that is $10 billion USD they lost.

Well, here's a thought. Monopolies are supposed to be illegal in most "free" countries. I really don't see how having a monopoly on a lifesaving medication is much different than say having a commercial monopoly on emergency telephone calls. If you could only use one telecom carrier to dial in for a life threatening emergency, the price of the call was $94,000, and you couldn't pay for the call up front - you'd die. Ridiculous, right!?

So world governments, how much will it cost in terms of gross national product and lost revenue NOT to treat hundreds of millions of citizens who will eventually stop producing anything except skyrocketing medical costs?

Why not simply save hundreds upon hundreds of billions up front, negotiate a reasonable settlement to buy the rights to the medications, and pay off the sordid corporate pirates in a lump sum? Note: You can borrow the money from China if you have to. They'll end up producing the medications anyway.

Chester, yes I am in USA. We get these ads for Harvoni and everything else you can think of on TV, print and online. It's all legal here.

Fitz, I agree but here is the truth in USA, the pharma companies charge whatever they want. Insurance companies either cover it, or they don't. The cost of illness is forced on the government, but also on the individual. For example:

Gilead has a program for people who are not covered by insurance. It's called 'Support Path' You apply to them for care, because you have no insurance. They want you to apply for medicare, and be denied for coverage. Under medicare you need to be destitute and have under $5000 net worth. If you have more than $5000 then you need to use the money or assets for treatment. Then they will pay for Harvoni.

If you are poor, and qualify for grants like I did, they still want you to pay. I qualified for $73,000 in grants, Gilead wanted me to get a loan for $23,000 and then I could get Harvoni.

The TGA is Australia’s equivalent to the FDA

On a more serious note Dr Freeman has created a wonderful resource to assist with treating Hep C and to aid in the procurement of safe and reliable meds to treat this virus for people worldwide. Given that Aussies now have access to PBS meds it's only logical that Fixhepc has become more relevant to overseas sufferers. The ball is in and has for some time been in the court of our overseas members I guess when it comes to furthering the cause that the Doc has started.
