Hello Rohcv,
Hep A is faecal oral. So you get it from eating someone else’s faeces (shit/poo/crap). Using human waste as a fertiliser is one way (we had a problem with imported frozen berries) but mostly it’s a 3rd world problem where drinking water and sewerage can mix. The vaccine provides and unknown duration of protection. They used to say a couple of years, now they say at least 10.
With Hep B you may already be immune. I would test for this via Hep B Ab levels to see if this is the case.
YMMV
3 October 2016 at 11:16 am #23457I’m no doctor, but I have heard vaccinations for A & B can be deadly if not all HVC is out of your system.
Waiting to SVR seems sensible but I have not seen this advice. Do you have a link?
We do know that in patients with chronic Hep B that Hep C treatment can cause reactivation of the Hep B, so it’s a bit like the Hep C weeds keep the Hep B weeds under control.

Do we know anything about the people who had Hep B reactivated? Are there any common features that made those people get their Hep B back?
Jeeze Louise, I should not have counted my chickens too early dammit

Cured baby5 October 2016 at 5:04 pm #23520As stated earlier upthread, I had the three shot A/B series … first shot before treatment, second in the middle of treatment, and third ended up well after end of treatment.
I didn’t seem to suffer any ill effects. However, I still haven’t been tested to see if they have given me immunity.
5 October 2016 at 6:31 pm #23524After week 8 of treatment, I had the complete hepatitis panel done…..
A, B, C. They were all negative and/or non-reactive. In addition, even
though my HCV was undetected, it was reactive. This means that
antibodies were found that indicated that HCV was present at some
point in time. As I understand it….this is why we heppers cannot
donate blood even after successful tx unless protocols have changed.Anyhow, never finished final Hep A/B vaccination. Didn’t really care.
Personally, I believe the stuffed up GI Dr wanted to cover his arse
before HCV tx. Ironically, I see him tomorrow. Again, I will wave my
results under his nose and tell him generics indeed work…SVR12.

SVR245 October 2016 at 10:26 pm #23538This recent article said that it is a good idea to get vaccinations while on treatment.
