Hello! I have recently finished my HCV treatment 8 week regimen, 1b geno, F2-3, naive, VL before treatment was just under 4.000.000iu/ml. I got my blood result of VL and am not sure, does it mean I am cured? I would be very appreciated if you dispel my doubts…thank you.
Attachments:13 May 2016 at 12:31 pm #17109What did the nurse Vanessa say to you? Really your doctor/nurse should help you interpret such results.
I am not a doctor but you will be considered cured if you are still undetected (“inactive” at 12-weeks post treatment.
M, 57, Live in Wellington,NZ.
Genotype 1a diagnosed in 2013.
Treating for the first time since October 31 with Buyers Club Sof/Led. Thanks so much guys. Minimal side effects apart from sore throat at the start..
Viral load 5.4m when treatment started, Undetected at 4 weeks, 8 weeks, End of Treatment and 12-weeks post EOT. Yay!13 May 2016 at 12:38 pm #17112The nurse said to me on the phone that everything is ok, I am undetected, but she also mentioned that there always could be a trace of virus in a body which is might be inactive. I hope I can see my consultant doctor in the near future. This result sounds a bit confusing to me, to be honest. Well, I have to wait the blood test in 12 weeks to confirm SVR.

If this is the result immediately after treatment the answer is “we don’t know yet”. If it was 4 weeks after it would be “we are pretty confident”
Please see my post here for the explanation in detail: http://fixhepc.com/forum/experts-corner/990-dealing-with-the-eot-to-svr-period.html
The <15 could be <15 detected or <15 undetected. Some labs simply report <15 (quantitative) and not the detected/undetected (qualitative).
Anyway the chances are that this will end up SVR. If not the short duration of you treatment makes longer treatment an obvious choice (but it is unlikely we will have to cross that bridge).
YMMV
13 May 2016 at 1:00 pm #17114Thank you all for your explanations! I was quite concerned from the beginning of treatment why the consultant prescribed me only 8 week regimen but not 12 week instead..with high VL and F2-3. So, 3 months to worry now. P.S. I have had this nasty virus for 27 years.
13 May 2016 at 7:20 pm #17133Hello guzeluk,
It’s great to see you here, welcome! You’ve come to the right place for answers to your questions on Hep C. It’s been an extremely helpful tool for me and many, many others. You can rely on Dr. Freeman’s guidance. He honestly wants all of us Hep C patients to get the help we need to be cured of this “nasty virus”.

Oh I don’t know, some of the PMs we’ve had recently you would deserve a medal for putting up with them for more than a second.
