    Wow you have really been through it! I’m even happier now that I decided not to try the interferon / riba treatments. Sounds like you are loving feeling ‘normal’. I can sense the joy in your post. From what I’ve heard that treatment is brutal.
    I thought tomorrow was going to be D day for me but apparently no. Tomorrow is going to be baseline bloods and fibroscan. Then when the blood results come back I’ll get a script.
    I’ve been asking where I can get the actual meds from but no one is telling me. No doubt I’m over complicating things but I imagine that not all pharmacies will be stocking Harvoni or whatever they decide to prescribe.
    I should not complain. After all I chose to wait for the treatment to become available on the. PBS but now it’s just so close!

    I hear you! I have this problem anyway – tend to be too gung ho. Will stay very very conscious of this.

    Thanks for the feedback. Love your photos and here’s one of mine.
    I believe I’ll be using Harvoni.
    Have avoided the interferon etc but instead focused on keeping fit, spending time, effort and stupid amounts of money on acupuncture (very effective for me), supplements and a couple of useless snake oil ‘cures’. Seems to have worked, my fibroscan reading is very low (between 4 and 6), but viral load too high.
    Hugely looking forward to starting the treatment. The biggest challenge in keeping up with the Yoga is the early starts (6.15am start). Once I get to class, if it’s too challenging, my teacher will help me with modifications, supported versions etc
    I have a shirt load of sick leave so that is no problem, thankfully. I outed myself to my boss under promise of strict confidence (I trust him).

    I’m hopefully starting treatment at the end of this week.
    I do Yoga classes 3 times a week (the 3rd class is Pranayama which is very restorative) and swim in the ocean 3 to 4 times a week(between 1.5km and 2.5km at a very relaxed pace) and do weights with a trainer once a week.I’m very keen to keep all of this up.
    Yoga is so good for the body and mind, swimming with the sea critters is my happy pill :) I think that keeping a bit of muscle mass on has helped me too.
    Looking for perspective from people who are or have been on the treatment journey. Does this seem do-able for the duration? Of course if feel like crap I will rest.

    Wise words. I could not have said it better myself probably because I’m not very wise ;) . I think the trick is to find an activity that you love and makes you happy. For me, swimming in the ocean is my happy pill. Yoga is what I need to keep my mind, body and spirit whole and functioning.. Different strokes.

    I’ve been talking with RPA who are monitoring me (annual scan, LFT and viral load testing). Last conversation I had they were pretty much asking the devil’s advocate questions and fair enough too. They have said they would want to monitor/supervise me when I take the generic treatment but wouldn’t give me a script.
    I’m due to see them end January with a view to starting PBS funded treatment with them but seeing as Cabinet have broken up for the year the funding ain’t going to happen by then :angry:

    A very lovely acupuncturist with a practice in Western Sydney had been providing treatment to HCV sufferers in prisons and observed some good results. I don’t remember the details but she ended up doing a Masters at UTS. I believe the study was inconclusive for several reasons but I’m lucky that TCM works well for me.
    I do a bunch of things and am in good health considering, I don’t know which if any is the key thing. Failing in 2 things – keeping weight off and getting enough sleep.
    Very curious to see how things change after treatment

    I have many questions, I guess I’m a fence sitter
    Are the drugs tested in Australia? What if they fail the test?
    How many people have used the generics, how many have been tested 3 months after and what percentage is cured?
    If you take the generics and they don’t work do you develop a resistance, and what would happen with future treatments?
    Do you have to compound the drugs yourself?
    I am so pissed off with our government and their stupid miserable penny pinching ways (that’s not a question)
    If anyone can answer those questions I’d greatly appreciate it

    Wow I am very lucky. Around 9 or so years ago I got onto an acupuncture trial and it literally saved my life. LFTs are still so-so and viral load is still there but I have a full time job and have been doing Yoga since before I was diagnosed. Have also had periods of intense exercise. Don’t know if it’s age (I’m 60 and female) or the virus that is making me need to recover more.
    I reckon if you can manage to do half an hour of weights once or twice a week that is really really good for your liver (personal experience). IT makes you feel really lively. And Yoga.
    My work do not know I have HCV and I won’t be telling t hem.
