Hooray Oregondaisy – you are wonderfully, fantasically and thankfully cured. Congratulations!
Hi Chris1234,
Congratulations on starting your treatment. Most people are pretty surprised at the low number or complete lack of side effects and I wish that for you.
I did get a bit fluey initially and my particular treatment caused some (bearable) headaches but as time goes on it is the improvements rather than the side effects that become apparent. The brain fog that was such a big issue for me improved during treatment and continued to improve long after I was cured.
I can now see that there was some depression mixed up in all of the crappiness of having Hep C as well as the exhaustion of trying to maintain some sense of functional normality with the heavy burden of having the virus on my back. For me there was a gradual improvement in my energy levels and general sense of well being.
Now that I am a couple of years cured I can absolutely see the differences between pre and post Hep C and those improvements started as soon as the medication started to take effect.
The best advice is to take every single pill at the same time every day to the very last. Drink lots of water, eat well, get some exercise and have faith that this treatment works. You also have Dr James, one of the most experienced Hep C experts in the world and all round amazing human, in your corner.
Wishing you all the best for your treatment. Let us know how you are travelling.

Hi KarenB,
I’m just catching up with some posts. Congratulations on taking those 84 pills! You have some good looking results so there are lots of reasons to be very optimistic. I’ve been where you are now trying to maintain some patience in the in-between times. Looking forward to hearing your results in the next few months.

Well done – that’s wonderful news Anton.

Thanks so much for sharing your story. Such good news that you are on the pathway to the right treatment for you. I know how debilitating Hep C is and how wonderful it is to live without it. I wish that for you.
I’m looking forward to hearing how you are going from time to time….

Hi Kaju,
Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary. Even though we may know that we are cured it’s always good to see those results…..
Thanks Hazel. Great coverage and CONGRATULATIONS on being awarded a 2019 Sir Edmund Hillary fellowship for your advocacy for Hep C elimination and social justice!!!! That’s a great acknowledgement of your hard work and more publicity for the cause. Well done Hazel. xx
Hi Karen,
Well done on those results one month into treatment. It’s good to hear that you haven’t had any side effects. From personal experience I do know the temptation of the viral load check but as Dr James and Mar said your LFTs are telling you that things are going well.
8 weeks to go Karen!!!
Cheers
Coral
Hi Karen,
I’m happy to hear that you are into your second week and everything is going well. The medications really are the quiet achievers, just going about their business killing the virus and allowing us to go about ours while they do it.
Good luck – it’s really such a short time for incredible long term effects.

That’s just great Austincr – we’ll be looking out for your 12 week SVR. Best of luck with the rest of your treatments.
I don’t know a lot about golf MikeMike ( mostly restricted to a few social games with rum at the 9th hole) but I do know what it’s like to finally get the Hep C monkey off my back so I feel your joy and love your enthusiasm.
A few of us hang around to try to encourage others so it’s great to have you on board to spread the word. Good luck with the rest of the treatment and we look forward to hearing about the results.
Thanks Hazel. Great article – gets some hard points across in a very readable way.
Nice photo guys.Hi Hopeful425,
I also had headaches and liver twinges during treatment as well as the gradual reduction of brain fog. What a relief it is to be able to think more clearly and have more energy.
It is more than two years now since I got rid of the virus for good and like me you will just continue to feel better. Only two more weeks to go until you take that last tablet. Well done you.
Coral
Congratulations Anton. It is such a great day when you take that final tablet and can declare yourself EOT.
Hoping to hear good news again from you in 3 months time. -
