Hi Gary,i cant help much with detailed feedback about blood tests but i can tell you about my experience with harvoni.i am 57 was genotype 1a for about 38 years and got on one of the first trials 2 years ago.
I had not previously treated as i didnt want to do interferon. As it was a trial i was tested at 1 week 2 weeks 4,6 8 and 12.it was a 24 week regimen but for the last 12 weeks i was tested monthly.
The thing i wanted to highlight to you is that although i had absolutely no side effects that i could feel, at my first weeks blood test my liver enzymes were very elevated to the point of concern to the doctors. They said i may have to stop the trial but i pleaded with them not to as i was feeling fine. They let me carry on and by the time i had my 2 week test the liver enzymes had dropped back to normal and my viral load had gone from 5 million to 5 hundred.
i wanted to share this with you as i think it is common for the enzymes to be briefly elevated and you should ask your doctor to get informed about this.Good luck,DavidDont worry about being tiny.I am nearly six foot and have been under 10 stone for years.i know that ribavirin is weight based but the daa’s are not.you will be fine and cured easily.Heart monitoring can be important if you are taking any meds for arythmia, they dont mix well with sofosbuvir .otherwise its ok.
hi londongirl,i am 57 and had hepc geno 1a for about 38 years f3 fibrosis at baseline.i did 24 weeks harvoni 2 years ago on one of the first trials and had NO side effects or after effects except more energy, less fatigue.i cant really comment on daclatasvir/sof as i havent tried it but i can certainly vouch for sof/led.although i had 24 weeks on the trial i was u/d at 4-5 weeks and convinced that if i had stopped at 12 weeks i would still have cleared.i thought long and hard about letting a friend take my second 12 weeks but it just wasnt practical or responsible.good luck.
No sorry Nadia, but i will ask.nhs wales do not do many such tests. It used to annoy me that they didnt do an il28b test before starting you on interferon. That was a good indicator if it would work or not but they just used to prescribe interferon anyway, even up until recently.
hi alsdad,it is a very good clinic but he was put on 12 weeks during trials before sof/dac was approved.hopefully it will not happen again as the trial results should now be in.
hi alsdad, yes it was you i had that convo with.the trial my friend is on was very recent.he is still on the 24 week follow up tx.i am sure he would have cleared if they gave him 24 to start with and yes,its very possibly a cost thing with the interferon.it makes me mad that wales nhs have only approved harvoni for 12 weeks when some people clearly would benefit from 24.
i had the same conversation with someone else .i thought 24 weeks is best but the other guy said there is no advantage in doing 24.if you are going to clear 12 will do it.all i know is that my friend did 12 and didnt clear.
i have a friend on an NHS trial in Wales that did 12 weeks sof/dac for gt3,prior non responder and cirrhosis. He relapsed 12 weeks after tx and now has to do 24 weeks sof/dac/riba.unfortunately I think interferon combo with sof/riba is still the best for g3.Not certain about this as things are moving so fast..
Hi NADIA,I WAS WONDERING WHICH AREA THE HEPATOLOGIST THAT SAID THEY WOULD MONITOR YOU IS IN AND ALSO IF YOU FOUND A UK DOC THAT WOULD WRITE PRESCRIPTIONS.DAVID
