God sake if it really is a cost cutting measure its an incredibly petty and nasty one!
I can’t help thinking anyone with a speck of human compassion would want to chuck the Interferon on the incinerator asap.
Perhaps the people who make these decisions just never get to see what happens at ground zero? It’s the only way I can imagine they aren’t monsters.

I have got my ass covered with a specialist appt on March 10. But if this is true it contradicts what people are being told over at the Facebook page. Thousands of GPs to choose from, just roll up roll up. Could be some disappointed hepsters…

So does that mean we are going to have to wait for our GPs to do this course before they can prescribe our DAAs?
This could drag things out considerably!

Thanks Seymour. If they use the EASL guidelines then I should be okay. Genotype 1a doesn’t seem to need Riba.
Feeling increasingly positive about all this.
We are all cynical and jaded and it takes some convincing to get us on board.
Maybe this is a watershed moment, and things will start to get easier for everyone everywhere.
    I really hope so.
    Merry Christmas to you all!

I’ll be very interested to see if Fibroscans are a requirement. If you want one here in Brisbane its either pay up or 6 months wait (and that was before this announcement).
I am also a little concerned as to whether 8 weeks is enough for those without Fibrosis. I certainly have some Fibrosis but not much. There has to be some way of calculating who gets 8 weeks and who gets 12 I guess. And they better not try and make me take Riba or I’ll rage at them :D

All that said I’ve made the decision to wait and see. Very grateful indeed to James Freeman for making the refund a possibility for those of us who just ordered. Thanks for being such an honourable and courageous man.
It’s going to be a much merrier Christmas in my household.

It’s very hard to trust these bastards thats for sure, but I don’t see how they can back out of this deal now.

I really don’t buy the idea that many people won’t want treatment. Of course they will!
They’ll be coming out of the woodwork in droves.
You’d have to basically be suicidal not to give it a go, especially now the community has formed so people can compare symptoms.
I’m not keen on being fobbed off with 8 weeks either.

And as a special bonus they get to whip up some public resentment against drug addicts…woo hoo!
Bet that caused some merriment in the halls of power.

    Love Greg Jefferys Blog!

I don’t regret ordering the generics the other day. It’s a small price to pay for a few months wellness. I can do a lot with three months of good health. If I wait and it is triaged I am at the bottom of the queue.

Plus, who would trust Sussan Ley?…she’s totally shifty. :D

I think on the whole though it’s wonderful news, because a whole lot of really sick people without any money are surely going to get treated. Well, reasonably surely….

How can they possibly treat everyone who wants to be treated straight away?
    It just doesn’t make sense.
It’s great news but still I am very dubious about just how universal it will be.

    Argh!
Thanks for that Alsdad. I’m very sorry about your friend. What an awful experience :/
    It sounds worse than chemo.
I’m sure that story will galvanise her determination to refuse it.

I was quite shocked to hear it too. Doesn’t taking Interferon make it harder for the new drugs to work? They were telling her they’d switch her on the new ones as soon as they were on the PBS, but thats a very weird treatment plan surely. Maybe they feel like they have to treat and thats the only option. Major Brisbane hospital btw.

I am Geno 1a but I have a friend who is a Geno3 with compensated Cirrhosis.
The liver clinic want to put her on Interferon! Luckily we had a conversation before that could happen. She’s not into computers much.
We were looking at her results…14.3 kPa Fibroscan, and RNA IU/ml …2.1 X 10E4 AND LOG 10….4.32.
I get the Fibroscan result, but I’m a bit confused by the RNA figures. Mine looks quite different on my results…a number in millions (or in my last one 600,000). Anyone have any idea what they mean?

I am trying to gather info on just why Interferon is so awful so as to help her escape. If anyone has any stories or links.

Thanks for that link GAJ (and Doc Freeman). Exactly what I needed to know. I’ll give up all my herbs for the duration just in case. Bit sad about the grapefruits though because my tree will have hundreds of them by then.

I’m not a broad spectrum luddite really…I do love my computer, though I’m not sure it’s good for me.

    I appreciate it :)
I am honestly a bit shocked that I am contemplating taking chemicals at this point. And quite surprised too that science seems to have managed to come up with something really useful for a change. Lets just hope there aren’t too many hidden implications.

Honestly taking these DAA’s is for me a very rare foray into the world of prescription drugs. Generally speaking, me and pharma are not friends and not about to become so. On the good side I don’t have serious health issues. The herbs have kept my liver function pretty good so I’m not expecting major sides. I’d much rather deal with it with herbs if possible.
