It’s a funny thing…since I cleared I feel like I don’t really need it any more. Didn’t really enjoy the combination of it with tx, and now, well, I’m sure I’ll still have the odd smoke, but it doesn’t seem important anymore. It certainly helped me chill out with all the unpleasant effects of the HCV over the years. And of course avoid the drinking as well.
Well, vape, not smoke, because smoking is so last century.

More cannabinoid receptors…..a possible upside to HepC?

I probably had HCV for 30 years, out of which there might be a total of one or two years out of that (not concurrently) in which I didn’t hoover down the marijuana…and I mean hoover!
Still only F1. And quite a low viral load before I started tx. Maybe I am a statistical anomaly, but if you ask me the major culprit is more likely to be pharmaceuticals, which I avoided assiduously.
There’s also the method of consumption to consider…I felt considerably better when I stopped smoking it. Whatever you do, don’t smoke!

Had to mention this in the name of science…two weeks after I started Harvoni, I got quite a heavy period, which is very unusual…they have been light/intermittent/occasional for years now and I had assumed Menopause was kicking in. But NO. It was the hepopause!
    Second period now confirms it.
Quite astonishing really, and added to much improved and deep sleep, it makes me very happy to be on these meds, even if the sides are a little icky now at about 7 weeks. Even they seem to come and go before you really get sick of them.

Did they happen to mention what state your liver was in? Have they done a Fibroscan or some similar test for cirrhosis?
If your liver is in good shape you can afford to take your time sourcing treatment, and there is less need for dedicated monitoring.
Seeing as you have not had it very long it seems likely your liver is still quite healthy.

    Thanks Ariel :)
I do think you are right and if I did a qualitative at this point it would be undetected.
There must be a wide variety of tests out there because it seems some quantitative tests do give back a detected or undetected result as well as a VL count, whereas others do not. A whole mass of potential confusion going on for those of us who like to watch our bloods.
Testing during tx isn’t being encouraged in the current regime of PBS meds, and its probably for the best in most cases, but for those of us who already know too much its never going to work out. Hence my using requests from here there and everywhere.
I will try to get my specialist to give me a qualitative test on the 28th. Think I can live with this for now. Tired of getting my blood sucked out!

Its a bit complicated Gaj, because the GP who gave me these bloods is not the GP who prescribed my meds. So I don’t really want to make him do the clarification. Like I say he’s a bit clueless, which is why I decided to go elsewhere in the first place. Trying to make him sort things out would be a chore for all concerned. I could go see the prescribing GP, except she didn’t want to test at all, which turns out to have been a bad idea, because if I hadn’t tested I probably would have ended up seriously low in sodium.
Luckily I have a specialist appointment on the 28th so I’ll try and get some sense from him. Not sure there’s much point in chasing this lot up. It’s good enough really, for week 4 bloods.

Yeah I might try and ring them LG.
They will probably be a bit shocked at being pestered by a patient but its worth a try.
I liked this comment I got from Archie on FB…
“If you take a quantitative out of one arm and a qualitative out of the other one will come back <15 and the other will be UND. People put to much emphasis on one word. <15 is a great result!"
    Cheered me up!

It’s a bit frustrating that they don’t say either undetected or detected on the results!
But either way I guess its pretty good for 32 days.
When my GP rang he said “it’s gone!” and I got all excited…but then when I got the hard copy I was back down the roller coaster.
I should have remembered he was one of the clueless.
Maybe you need to do a qualitative next, and that will give you an UND. That is what I am going to ask for when I see my specialist at the end of the month.

So is <15 in a quantitative test Undetected or not??
Doesn't say detected or undetected. I guess at least there's no point doing any more quantitative tests.

Feeling good this morning…can’t wait to see the viral load result!
Will start making natural electrolyte drink with Himalayan salt and cut down on the fluids a bit.
As a side note I used the trick of putting my address on the blood form and got them delivered to my door.
