Hi Edge,
Hoping your insomnia resolves soon, mine has improved considerably since I completed treatment. I linked this before but here is Dr Freeman’s blog again about it which you and others may find helpful.

17 August 2017 at 8:21 am in reply to: HCV virus can now be defeated, yet how do we defeat HCV stigma? #26775Hi Lilyfield,
My apologies, in no way did I take either your quoted source or you to be advocating silence, as I said it is excellent advice! My further comments including those about the wall of silence were not regarding your post but rather a clumsy attempt to express my thoughts on stigma and why many are reluctant to disclose enough information for others to even have an opinion. I’ve made a couple of amendments to hopefully clarify.

Fantastic news about your boyfriend, SonjaTheGF!
(Nice to see he gave up the cigs too )
– Regarding your question about the virus returning, here is some information Dr Freeman provided a while back. (Keep in mind that some of the 0.4% difference between SVR12 and 24 are likely reinfections.)

16 August 2017 at 5:38 am in reply to: HCV virus can now be defeated, yet how do we defeat HCV stigma? #26765Thanks Lilyfield, that is excellent advice and how I try to think and lead my life too.
Howeverit can become difficult ^for some^ to abide by this creed when others carry their thoughts through into actions and behaviour towards us and/or our loved ones.ThatFear of those actions and behaviours is largely what drives the stigma many with chronic HCV feel. It is fuelled by ignorance and lack of understanding and creates a situation where most remain silent which allows those in power to conveniently ignore us. And while what Lao Tzu states can be a useful tool for our own inner peace as individuals, of itself itdoesn’t assistis of some help in breaking down the wall of silence surrounding this disease. That will only occur through spreading greater awareness and knowledge and dispelling the myths (mists?) surrounding HCV.Because of this I am mostly open about my own situation (while understanding that others may be more reticent) but I look and work towards the day that I can discuss HCV with a stranger without wondering what response I am going to get.

Welcome betterdays
I don’t know enough about Prep to provide any advice there. I would recommend an email to help@fixhepc.com – their team will be able to provide the appropriate and up to date medical advice regarding this.
You haven’t mentioned your genotype (GT1?) but the results you pulled up have the same ‘aggregate’ total of 96.8% so it looks like in your case the two treatments are comparable. Obviously they can’t both be listed first so I suspect the program has just listed one then the other. While the numbers from clinical trials for both are relatively limited in statistical numbers, they have been proved to be fairly accurate when compared with treatment results since then across the general population.
Regarding Harvoni, Sovaldi and Daklinza, these are the trade names of the originator manufacturers for their ‘branded’ products. Generics products while basically chemically the same have different trade names for their products although many patients still call these by the original manufacturer names. If you look at the “Notes” section below each recommendation you will see the various generics trade names.
More specific to your question, Sovaldi (sofosbuvir) was the big breakthrough drug that is the base for many treatments but requires other drugs added to create an effective combination depending on genotype, tx experience, etc.
Harvoni is made by the same manufacturer as Sovaldi. They combine the Sovaldi with one of their other drugs ( Ledipasvir) in one pill. Daklinza is made by a competitor of theirs so a Sofosbuvir/Daclatasvir combination is not available as a one pill original brand treatment. So commercial reasons rather than medical reasons.A quick summary of these three.
Sovaldi = Sofosbuvir (needs another drug such as Ledipasvir or Daclatasvir added so is a two pill combo)
Harvoni = Sofosbuvir+Ledipasvir (all in one pill)
Daklinza = Daclatasvir (needs sofosbuvir added so is a two pill combo)Best wishes and I’m sure those better days will soon arrive for you.
Edit: I see Dr Freeman has already responded with answers. I’ll leave this here as it may be of use to others wondering about the various names.

Hi everyone and thank you all for your kind comments.
I just try to “pay it forward” for the kindness, care, wisdom and camaraderie that many of the members and guests of this forum have been generous enough to share with me and many others. All of you with your contributions (no matter their size) are the ones who make this place what it is so Thank You.
Re_roll,
Unfortunately I’ll need to skip the Scotch (and the wine ). My liver was rather tattered when I arrived so for now my drink of choice(?) is Soda with a twist of lemon. But have one for me.
Splitdog,
I’ll be waiting at the finish line to cheer you over it.

Hi GoodluckGirl and welcome,
Regarding MG and Harvoni, these HCV medications are generally safe for most patients but I am not a doctor so would recommend that you seek expert medical advice before commencing treatment to ensure there are no risks associated with it. Any medications you take for the MG or other reasons can be checked for interactions with Harvoni via the Liverpool University Interactions checker that Mnem suggested. Here is a direct link to it:
http://www.hep-druginteractions.org/checker
While I understand your concerns after reading about people’s experience with side effects of Harvoni, please keep in mind that the vast majority who treat do so without any problems, reach SVR and move on with their lives often with few if any posts. Those few who do experience issues or relapse will be more likely to post about their experiences and so can seem over represented on forums, etc. Both reactions are human nature and as it should be.
I won’t go into diet too much other than to recommend a healthy ‘heart smart’ type diet containing a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables, carbs and a suitable source of protein of choice but noting that strict vegan diets can be deficient in vitamin B12 although in your case the Ovo part will assist with this.
8 weeks Harvoni is only recommended for patients who meet certain criteria for treatment naive, fibrosis level and viral load. While it reduces the length and particularly the cost of treatment in that group it does still have a several percent lower SVR rate than for similar patients that treat for the full twelve weeks. For those who can afford it my recommendation would be to very seriously consider the extra four weeks to increase the odds of success.

Hi Bogdan16,
Timing of these medications and whether to take with food is mostly a personal thing. I would recommend that you choose a time that you think best suits you and try that. In my case I took mine as soon as I got up in the morning (easy to remember) without food, went for my morning walk to pick up the paper and milk then had breakfast about an hour after the pills. Others take with food, at midday, before bed, etc. The most important thing is to take them at the same time each day but if for some reason the chosen time causes issues then you can change it by stepping forward or back a few hours each day until you reach the new time. (the exception to above is those also taking ribavirin which is recommended to be taken with food). Here is a link to some ‘Helpful Hints’:
https://fixhepc.com/forum/helpful-hints-during-treatment.html
Regarding vitamins, the usual recommendation is to avoid most supplements during treatment. The possible exceptions are vitamins D and B12 if your levels of these are low – good levels correlated with better response under the old interferon treatments so may also be beneficial with DAAs. In my case, I tested for both and was a little low so took my doc’s advice on suitable dosage.

What a fantastic night! Great music, artists baring their souls with often amusing but always poignant anecdotes of the iniquities and stigma of living with HCV, much celebration by the many there who have been recently cured by DAA medications but most importantly helping spread the word of the availability and life changing/saving results of these medications to those who may not follow the mainstream or medical media.
As Ariel says, the message is “SEEK TREATMENT NOW. NOW WHEN WE HAVE THIS MIRACLE”.
Kudos to the organisers and the many who attended……..I even spied a mermaid dancing with punk rockers in front of the stage.
