    His AST/ALT ratio of nearly 2 suggests alcohol and/or some level of damage (maybe even quite high) but based on only one result and lack of other indicators could be misleading. Do you know his platelet count? If so put that and his AST into the APRI calculator at the top of the Decision Support Tool http://fixhepc.com/hcv to get what should be a more accurate idea.
    As a G3 myself I believe he should have a consultation with someone with experience of HCV treatment with DAAs. Your suggestion as to where is in the right direction. :+1:

    @gaj

    Had a clinic visit today for 18 week bloods and CT scan results. The scan came up all clear :woohoo: ……..so my inability to sleep last night was a complete waste of time!

    The other good news was that all my bloods continue improving as treatment progresses. You can see the ALT/AST in my signature, these are below anything I’ve tested before even pre diagnosis (I did enjoy the occasional tipple in the distant past B) ) and quite reasonable considering where I started but all the others have also been trending better and better as my Tx has progressed. Everything is now within normal range with GGT and bilirubin, etc being well down. My AFP has also trended down and has now not only gone below 8 but dropped to 4.5, big sigh of relief there but will still need the 3 monthly scans for quite some time. Platelets which were in the 90s have trended upward each test and now reached 165. I am told this trend is a good positive indicator for future fibrosis regression. :cheer:

    No VL this time, next one will be at EOT in five weeks. Then SVR6 (what can I say? I like to be different……it also fits with my scan schedule.)

    On top of all those pathology indicators I feel much healthier, happier and more positive that I have for years. If there is anyone out there reading this and you hasn’t made up your mind about starting treatment, I say “go for it!”. The improved quality of life is a significant payback by itself before you even factor in achieving SVR. :+1:

    @gaj

    Attended my clinic today, I attend in the pm rather than the main clinic in the mornings so wasn’t able to witness that but it was very obvious that changes have occurred. The upbeat feel I got from the staff was palpable, they are obviously thrilled to be able to offer DAAs to their patients. Without telling tales out of school, I have a feeling that triage is not occurring and several dozen scripts are being written weekly as required. Obviously there is a backlog of previously warehoused patients but certainly the indications I got were that that this is being worked through as quickly and smoothly as possible. I also heard from someone else this week that they had reliable information that their NSW clinic was supplying at least 20 scripts per week. So it seems there is some good news on the PBS initiative at the moment and hopefully that will flow through all clinics as any kinks get ironed out and it will become a ongoing process with GP support as well. :)

    Hi Dom,

    The U.K. allows you to import 3 months at a time, usually if you require longer (24 weeks) treatment you would get a repeat script initially and just do as two shipments.

    Hi beaches,

    it is interesting how Tx seems to effect us all a little differently. Since starting Tx my appetite and ability to eat a varied diet has improved greatly and I now need to watch what I eat, particularly the delicious high fat items :whistle: that gave me problems previously.

    But agree with all your other observations. :cheer:

    Hi Sundance,

    Not a doc so please check with yours but my bilirubin jumped 50% within two weeks of starting riba and returned to previous level over next four weeks (Didn’t test at one week so may have been higher). I understand this is due to the increased RBC hemolysis caused by the riba initially. 1000mg is usually the recommended dose for someone of 66kg, do you know why you were put on the higher dose?

    On a more personal note I believe it is inappropriate of the OP to drag people with disabilities into this discussion. It is not relevant to the subject and certainly not humorous even with his poor attempt at dissembling.

    While allowing room for Dr Freeman or FixHepC to respond further as appropriate, this announcement only applies to the old version of the “Buyers Club” section of FixHepC. That is, the section that arranged shipment on a patient’s behalf of encapsulated API based medications to an Australian physical address based on an Australian prescription. As the Australian PBS now covers all Australian citizens this group has become an extremely small subset of what FixHepC does. For everyone else other options such as Redemption eTrial (Buyers Club V2), direct import, etc. continue to be available as per the below link.

    Hi Pauli,
    I see you are on Redemption so hopefully you were able to contact someone for advice of what to do? Though I guess Good Friday wasn’t the ideal time for this to happen…..

    LGs advice about the pill dispenser is good, mine has saved me a couple of times now, very reassuring to be able to check when you have a foggy moment.
