    Don’t worry about it guys.

Corporate greed is entrenched in the western world. It’s taught religiously in all business schools in every university in every country. The two party political system that has evolved in most western countries makes a mockery of democracy. Whoever wins power quickly forgets what they promised the voters to get that power, but never forgets their obligations to those who funded their campaigns. Unfortunately, that’s what our democracy has become. The USA is no different to Australia, the UK or any other European country in general terms. No country is either better or worse.

I fully agree with Greedfighter. You can’t shame them, because they have no shame, and you can’t change them, because they’ve spent their whole corporate lives striving to get to where they are and they are not going to give that up overnight. The best thing to do is to increase awareness that there are easily accessible generic DAAs that will cure HCV at an affordable price. Anyone in the western world who has suffered HCV for decades will find a way to get the US1,500. Hopefully, competition amongst generic manufacturers will reduce the price of generic DAAs over time for HCV sufferers in third world countries. Let’s focus on helping others access an affordable HCV cure by working around the system that has been set up against them.

    Hi PKQ

    Congratulations.

A much deserved self- treating win against HCV with that cheap and nasty “Chinese Rat Poison” stuff.

I’ve been referred to a liver clinic and they’ve told me they will schedule an appointment when they get around to it. Who knows when? So, it’s not just Adelaide with a long queue for PBS HCV DAA treatment. In the words of another forum member, Beaches, they can all go to the far queue.

Don’t worry about the Ribavirin … it doesn’t have any side effects” … is straight out medical negligence. They have a duty of care to fully inform patients of all known side effects. Ribavirin’s list of side effects is longer than Chopper Reads rap sheet.

    Cheers

    Hi Dubaichic.

Glad to hear that your son is getting better so quickly.

With his ALT and AST being 26 and 21 respectively, I’m guessing that his viral load will come back either very low or undetected.

That will make him feel even better.

    Cheers

I was diagnosed with the hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 2 (GT2). The only treatment available on the PBS in Australia is Sofosbuvir (SOF) + Ribavirin (RBV). The main reason why I chose generic SOF + DCV, given its similar efficacy to SOF + RBV, was to avoid the well documented side effects of RBV. GT2 is relatively rare in Australia. A GT2 diagnosis, however, may in fact be HCV GT2k/1b, which is not recognised by commonly used genotyping assays. If that is the case, then SOF + RBV is insufficient with relapse rates greater than 90%. See PS001 (directly under “Viral Hepatitis C (1)”) below:

    GT2.jpg

This adds weight to why the pan-genotypic SOF + DCV is a better choice for GT2s.

Generic SOF + DCV is now available in a single tablet called Darvoni.

Dr Andrew Hill’s and Dr James Freeman’s input into the development of Darvoni can be read here:

    Hi Sven

When you feel ready to add your HCV genotype etc to your signature profile, this is how to do it:

How to add a signature to your profile

Scroll to the top of any forum screen, click on the ‘Profile’ tab.

    – Then click the ‘edit’ button on the right of the grey bar at the top of your profile.

    – Enter your password in the required field, repeat to confirm, then click the ‘Save’ button.

    – Click on the profile information tab and scroll down to signature panel and add what you want. There are also other fields in the profile page that you can edit if you want.

    – Click on ‘Save’ when finished. That will take you back to your user account page. Click ‘Save’ again.

    Hope that this helps

    Good tip Ariel

I didn’t want to carry on with it last night … but that’s what we do … when I’m feeling crook that is … add ginger to our meals ( <img style=ick:' /> ) with lemon juice (have a big eureka lemon tree out the back) … always loaded.

The moral of the story … ginger and lemon juice is good for a crook liver … in my experience.

….get the word out about generics. I promise you tell someone who has had Hep C for 20 years he can get cured for $1500 and that is all he can think about. That’s how I was; and I don’t have money, but I came up with it fast.

    :) :)

    Very true.

Big Pharma’s Fat Cats (not sure if I spelled that last word correctly  … ) have no shame … however, any attention to the cause is good attention.

    Thanks Beaches and Dr James

Beaches, it definitely didn’t taste like any lolly that I have ever eaten. It worked however … I doubt that it was from a placebo effect.

But more seriously, I do take your point … the fresh ingredient of anything is better than something manufactured.

Next time I will try your ginger & mint drink (mint grows wild in my garden).

For a ginger hater, however, Dr James’ apple juice, celery and ginger sounds pretty good.

    Thanks for the tips.

    :)

P.S. Just looked on the back of the Buderim Ginger pack … 86% sugar … so, it probably was a placebo sugar pill … but, a palatable one for a ginger hater. :)
