I had a similar feeling when the meds arrived. I think it’s natural to have some doubts. If there’s one medicine you will bite the bullet and take, let it be this one. I like what mike said about if he hadn’t known he was taking anything, he wouldn’t know he was taking anything! Completely agree! Aside from the first 2-3 days I felt a little brain foggy but it was pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things. You just have to weigh up the pros and cons! If the HCV is causing/adding to your anxiety this could be the one thing that may relieve some of those feelings.
Best wishes

SVR12So I rang the nurse today to get my results. I had the 4 week test on the 8th Jan and it was just a qualitative test and came back detected. They sent the sample away to be re-tested for viral load and apparently the result for that was undetected. The lower limit is apparently <12. Little bit confused.... But very pleased all the same!!
If I didn't have a need to understand all this I'd just accept it and leave it there. But I must understand...can anyone explain. I guess they are different labs but I would've thought the lab doing the quantitative would have the more sensitive equipment and this seems backwards.
But....YAY
Geez I've been waiting so patiently to use that banana!
Also have a 6 week qualitative coming through (she is chasing it up) so that will confirm for me that the UND is for real! Because I'm having trouble believing it at the moment...
Edited to add: 6 week qualitative pcr UNDETECTED illy:' />

SVR12Hi Josie,
Welcome to the forum. You have come to the right place to get the information you need.
Your story sounds similar to mine. I contracted hep c when I was 19 and found out I had it because I experienced a period of acute hepatitis following the intial infection. I think it lasted around 3-6 months before it passed. I was extremely unwell, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, had to resign from my job. I knew something was wrong so went to the doctor to investigate. It was a horrible time, I feel for you! It does generally pass within 6 months.
I actually went on to clear the virus naturally about a year or so later, without any treatment (which can happen in around 20-25% of new infections, I believe). But unfortunately, I went on to later contract it again, a different genotype the next time.
You can treat now by obtaining a prescription (either through a specialist or gp2u) and sourcing generics. This can be done easily and quickly. Or you can wait until the medicines become available to the Australian public from March this year. The difference would be whether the cost matters to you and whether you want to wait.
Do you know your genotype?
All the best, take care of yourself xx

SVR12When they did my test they did not ask for viral load, only detected/undetected. After the test came back detected the nurse requested the sample to be re-tested for viral load.
The qualitative test (detected/undetected) is cheaper, it is done locally and is fairly quick. The viral load (quantitative) is more expensive and has to be sent to another state and can take 1-2 weeks.

SVR12We are in the same boat, Isaing. I also had a 9 million v/l and have not reached undetected at the 4 week test. Still waiting on the v/l results.
Hopefully it will not take much longer for us both. At 83 you are getting close!
