Thank you for your post Dr James.

I am not sure if its 17kPA I just know it was 17.

In April this year I had a fibroscan within a year it went from 8.6 to 17. The technician did it twice on the spot and I could see the alarm on her face. It was done at RPA Sydney.

It raised alarm bells as it wasn’t following a typical HepC trajectory and my specialist did every test available. When I had a liver biopsy it was F3/F4 borderline. Alt’s etc were very high . The final conclusion was my liver was inflamed and I should go on treatment immediately. That meant Interferon. I chose the FixHepC path.

In October I checked with the hospital before ordering my meds through FixHepC and was told I am F3 non cirrhotic & to order a script for Sof 400gm and Dac 60gms x 12 weeks.

Before tx my Alts were going down and I was starting to feel slightly better. 6 weeks into treatment my alt’s are normal and as mentioned 0 viral load. The hospital is monitoring me during my tx and after. I will most likely get another fibroscan in April 2016.

    Thank You Dr James

    Hello G2’s

I have had a break from posting for a couple of weeks and in the meantime this section has been put up. I am G2 also but don’t know if A or B, F3 and Fibroscan 17 non-cirhotic. Though 2 weeks ago at 4 week bloods viral load 0 so I don’t have Hep C after 40 years. I am gradually improving. Sleep is getting better, not waking up every hour and dreams are less vivid. I have more energy although I tend to over do it too and usually have to rest the next day. No brain fog, I am as clear as crystal!! I love that sharpness and clarity. Nausea hardly at all and an increased appetite. This has happened gradually the first few weeks I didn’t feel great. I feel a lot more positive as I am not so overwhelmed all the time. I am not dragging my arse around wondering how I am going to get through the day.

    Hello

I have been on treatment 6!/2 weeks now….the first few weeks I couldnt sleep and the fatigue was overwhelming I was comparing myself to others on the site and wondering why I wasn’t feeling that great and full of energy. It was hard not compare myself, I wanted to be that person who had a new lease on life and my expectations were high. Then it was suggested to focus on my own experience as everyone is different and compare myself to myself and observe the changes in my symptoms.

The improvement in the 61/2 weeks is absolutely incredible. Its been gradual and over this time the meds have done there job. My body has integrated them and yesterday I did so much. I say this because from 11.30am to 12midnight I was active. I managed to do it all from creative endeavours to christmas party with a level of energy that I have not had for approx 30 years. I wasn’t pushing myself, dragging my arse around stressing about how I was going to get through the day and night. I just paced myself and breezed through with energy. I remember that was how I used to feel way way back. I was thinking this must be how people feel. They have a healthy energy to do things, to live their lives. I also ate what I wanted and am ok ish today. Liver a little tight..but ok I have a clear head no brain fog. Friends are commenting how well I look and how present I am. The old me is starting to emerge. This is half way through treatment…I look forward to improving overtime and am starting to think about the possibility of getting work which was something I just couldn’t comprehend a year ago. I feel like I’m rising from the Ashes!!! Its exciting to feel I am getting well and look forward to the future.

    Hello Jean Marc

At four week into treatment I had my viral load done and the nurse said results can take at least a week. I live in Sydney and had blood taken at a major hospital. She said viral load takes longer as its a more complicated test. It sounds like your cleared. Good luck to you.

    Hello

I have been absent for a couple of weeks…I have currently passed the 6 weeks mark of treatment and am on the downhill run…at week 4 I had my bloods done and I am HCV free…with normal liver function tests…great news as I have had hep C for 40 years…sleeping patterns still interrupted but getting used to it. I am doing so much at the moment..without the normal dragging myself around..I have much more energy…For the first time in years I have a clear head, no brain fog, I have no nausea, no tightness in my liver and more energy…

Have just turned on the TV and seen the news about the announcement of the new drugs on PBS..fantastic!!! It gives so many people the chance of a cure.
I thought for a moment… should I have waited for the announcement and not purchased the drugs? And the answer is NO!! I have absolutely no regrets or doubts that paying for the drugs was a mistake. It has been incredibly empowering for me to value my life and take it into my own hands without waiting or stalling, being able to make my own decisions and not getting any sicker has been one of the best things I have done. As soon as I started treatment the anxiety of waiting left me.

    Hello

Today is day 23. All going along ok. Happily my sleep patterns are starting to get back to normal. The past few nights I have still woken up after 3 hours but I go straight back into a normal sleep. Not this hovering not asleep not awake state. What a relief.
Hope it keeps up as when I have a good nights sleep I definitely feel better.

    Hi CJ

That is so frustrating…and the nurse sounds like a pain in the arse. You are doing all you can at the moment. You seem to know what to do. Re getting the files to Dr. James.

    Hi CJ

Although the specialist didn’t give your friend a script or openly support the generics he will monitor. Take that as a yes and try to get the drugs as soon as you can. I understand his (your friends) dilima.. you really want the specialist’s approval as he seems to know it all!! I felt like that, however, when push comes to shove its his body and his life and it is very empowering to side step the authorities (specialist) and make a decision for your life!! From what you have said he is confused and why wouldn’t he be? The impact of his failing liver would make him feel very very unwell and vulnerable. Let alone all the other things going on. He’s condition is complicated and I can image the dire state he feels. But if you can help him understand that what he is doing is legal and there are many people going on treatment via FixHep C and that if it wasn’t safe then the specialist would never consider monitoring.

Also the longer the delay in the negotiations with Gilead/Gov then the more people are going to be approaching the hospitals with there own meds for monitoring. The hospital must see the increase in patients taking this into their own hands. The only reason I found out that they monitor was when I saw my nurse I asked if they would support me and to my surprise she said yes. Then I asked if they were supporting others and she said yes!! I had no idea that the support was there. They don’t tell you because of liability incase something goes wrong. So I think its their way of quietly supporting by saying yes if you ask.
    All the best.
