Congratulations on 8 years Dr James and merry Christmas! I wonder why big corporations are trying to shut down a portal that helps people get treated from a deadly disease.

Hi valesolove, all the best with your treatment. Yes, the combination of Sofosbuvir + Daclatasvir is very effective. The majority of patients however experience mild side effects, so you’re one of the few people who experienced strong side effects unfortunately. Drinking a lot of fluids is a sure way to minimize side effects during treatment, so you may want to try that.

Hello Garth, welcome to the forum! According to the Hepatitis NSW site in Australia, “there is no reason to be concerned about the COVID vaccines if you’re on hep C treatment”. You can read the COVID and hep C FAQ here.

Great to hear Redhead, that’s usually the case once you reach SVR, you never have to look back.

Hi Hope, it’s very good to know that you’ve had zero side effects with the DAAs. Completing 24 weeks should be easy enough then, and you’ve given yourself the best possible chance to reach cure after the previous failure. Just watch your diet as you said to avoid stomach acid issues and it will be smooth sailing. Things look great so far, hopefully they will continue this way and you’ll get rid of this virus soon enough. Keep doing what you’re doing, all the best.

You’re welcome, congratulations on starting treatment. Epclusa is a really excellent drug for Hepatitis C, all the best.

Hello Sale, and welcome to the forum. I’m not a doctor, but I do know that a high Hepatitis C viral load does not negatively affect your cure chances in any way. Regarding treating Hepatitis C if you have EBV, hopefully the forum’s resident expert, Dr Freeman, will answer your question when he sees it soon. All the best.

Hi Sonja, that’s great news, congratulations to your friend :) . Thank you for letting patients with liver fibrosis know that it’s indeed reversible with successful Hep C treatment.

Hello Violet, welcome back to the forum! It’s great to know that you and your husband have been cured and forgot that you ever had Hep C, that’s awesome. I’m not sure if a specific vaccine is more suitable for people with liver cirrhosis because Dr James has answered a similar question and said that all approved Covid vaccines are not contradicted for them. You can read his post here. All the best to both of you.

Hi acidicleo123, welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. The good news is that there is now very effective treatment for Hep C. Direct-acting antivirals (DAAs, such as Epclusa) deliver a cure rate of over 95% on the first try. No need to worry about your viral load, strange as it may seem, it has very little correlation to either cure rate or liver damage. You can read this blog post by FixHepC’s founder Dr. James Freeman to learn more about that.

Regarding options to get the blood tests done privately in the UK, hopefully a UK forum member will answer your question. All the best to you, hopefully your treatment will be quick and simple.

That’s excellent news Hazel, great job by you, Dr James, and everyone at Global Health New Zealand! The people of Niue are lucky, they were all tested for viral Hepatitis for free. If only there were enough donations to test everyone in the world. Anyway, that’s one down, congratulations!
